The building I chose to do for my Architectural project is the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral. The board of directors hired Harold H. Fisher & Associates for the architectural scope and design of this church. I chose to report on this structure because I am a parishioner and member of the church and hold it very close to my heart. I attend mass, my husband and I were married here and both of my children were baptized in this church. I have many friends and family members who are also parishioners and members, making it a common place for us to visit, learn and pray. The church is new, larger and modern. In the late 1960’s and the early 1970’s there was a large population of Macedonians who emigrated in large numbers looking for a better life for themselves and their children. With unofficial numbers stating that there are about 30,000 Macedonians in the Metro Detroit area, this made our community one of the largest in North America and the largest in the United States. The Macedonians were seeking a home for their religious and spiritual needs so they attended local Greek, Bulgarian and Serbian Orthodox Churches. In 1975 the old church in Warren, located on Ryan Rd between 8 and 9 Mile Roads, became our new home. As time went on the Macedonian population continued to grow and the church was not large enough to house all of the parishioners and members.…show more content…
The building of our new church began in September of 1998 and was complete in September of 2002. This new church was built to hold more parishioners and bring the Macedonian population back together in one home for weekly mass, holidays, weddings, baptisms and to continue our religious and spiritual
