In the play Romeo and Juliet, many conflicts had made the play very interesting and kept your attention. Romeo and Juliet had fallen in love but then found out that their families don't like each other. They both ended up dying. I feel as if Friar Lawrence was most responsible for the outcome in Romeo and Juliet because he married them and gave Juliet the potion. Many other things would have happened if Friar did not get involved.
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is not in the death of two young lovers, but the failure of society to overcome the social barriers that would have prevented the loss of so many innocent lives. Lord Capulet followed his social role of the father, and felt it was his duty as the man of the house to protect his family and their reputation. His wife, Lady Capulet, took it as her role to sit back and obey her husband, even if in the end it would mean the death of her only daughter. Friar Lawrence's role as a peacemaker leads him to see Romeo and Juliet’s relationship and marriage as an opportunity to stop the family feuding than as two
They stumble that run fast” in the end of Act II Scene III. Friar Laurence is basically stating that Romeo shouldn’t rush anything otherwise, he would make a mistake. Secondly, Friar Laurence is very considerate. He is seen as the “peace maker” in the play when he marries Romeo and Juliet even though he thought that they weren’t really in love. All the Friar wanted to do was bring harmony to the feuding families.
This play exhibits tragedy because, though Proctor had many opportunities to change his fate, he chooses his demise because his tragic flaw prohibits him from doing otherwise. John Proctor is the tragic hero of the play, “The Crucible.” He has a high social status in the town, yet, because of his tragic flaw, he cannot bring himself to prevent his own death and tragic downfall. Proctor exhibits these tragic traits, making this play a tragedy of self-respect prevailing over shame and public
Friar knew about the problems between the Montague's and Capulet's yet he still marries Romeo and Juliet. Friar knew it would end in a feud between the families because he said “For his alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor”.
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton “What I see is him that suffers most” was my initial thought toward Ethan’s life in the end. Edith Wharton’s ending of the novel filled my heart with such sorrow and compassion to Ethan’s situation. Wharton throughout the novel made subtle actions toward Ethan and his torn feeling to stay with his wife and his attraction toward his sister in law, Mattie Silver. I sympathize with Ethan Frome to an extent to the point in which I actually think his actions throughout the novel seemed like the right thing to do but, I feel little compassion toward him for he was the one to propose to Zeena without thinking of the consequences toward either him or Zeena. First of all, Wharton’s subtle action toward Ethan’s torn feelings for Mattie and being loyal to his wife.
Shakespeare created 2 star-crossed who struggle to find balance with their love without upsetting those around them who disapprove. The play focuses on their love along with others around them that affect their everyday lives. This issue leads to future problems that surface in the play such as their own deaths. Those around Romeo and Juliet are to blame for their suicides.
Though not completely responsible, the nurse contributed more or less to the death of the misfortunate lovers. In the beginning of the play we see that the nurse is very supporting of Juliet’s relationship with Romeo, in fact bringing the couple together when Romeo was banished. However in Act Scene the Nurse tells Juliet she’s better off marrying paris. I think it best you marry with the county...Romeo’s a dish clout compared to him”. Had the nurse not betrayed Juliet, Juliet would have been able to make those important decisions with advice from her nurse rather than by herself.
Romeo also implies he feels something bad is going to happen which will ultimately end in his death. 5,1,6 “I dreamt my lady came and found me dead” dramatic irony is found in this quote as Shakespeare was trying to hint the audience that something bad is going to happen. In conclusion, disobeying authority or it can have bad results is an important theme of Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless, authority is not the main message, love and fate are as important as
Juliet’s death, might have been an advantage for him to realize his ways. He transformed from calm and friendly, to strict and bossy, to temperamental, to devastated. Shakespeare, in his play, made it clear that Lord Cap was not as calm or friendly as he appeared to be. Now he must face life, knowing his daughter feared to love knowing her parents would
