Geow Hao Min The impact of deforestation One of the most important and complex ecosystems that support life on earth is the forest. When forests get destroy, it will start a disastrous chain of misadventure. The primary effect of deforestation is climate imbalance. They are more then one way that deforestation can affects the climate. One of the way would be increase the carbon emissions, trees will help to absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses that are due to human’s irresponsible activity. Without trees, the carbon dioxide will rise up to the ozone layer and prevent the heat from licking out to the space. To further exacerbate the situation, trees that have been cut down and burned will release more greenhouse gases. According to WWF “Tropical forests hold more than 210 gigatons of carbon, and deforestation represents around 15 percent of greenhouse gas emissions”. The other way would be soil erosion. In need of the tree root to secure the soil and lacking the shade from the trees, sold will dry out easily, therefor inability to farm and increased flooding will occur around the deforestation area. As claimed by WWF that “ scientists estimate that a third of the world’s arable land has been lost to deforestation since 1960”. Commercial farming plantation, such as cotton, sugar cane, tobacco and etc. will not hold onto the soil as the trees does and this will aggravate soil erosion. Those two factors will have adverse effects on economies. Lack of quality water and increased flooding will lead to local migrate to city that lack infrastructure from them, aggravate the deforestation problem.
