The goal is to create a healing environment. To create a healing environment it is necessary to address the patient’s spiritual well-being as well as his physical well-being. A physical environment to promote healing is important. This must include a clean quite safe environment that promotes rest. The work design of Mercy Gilbert Medical center is a perfect example of a healing Hospital work design process. They have routed Patient transport and Employee paths in a way to avoid converging with that of visitors. Advanced technologies expedite the processes of patient care but still maintain a caring environment. Health care leader Eric Chapman has promoted a philosophy of “radical love” With all of the latest Bells and whistles a hospital cannot be considered a healing Hospital if the care is not delivered by a compassionate caring staff. (Eberst, 2008) Healing Hospitals have educational tools for patients and families to enhance healthy living. The concept of a healing hospital gives hope to those requiring the services of the health care system. Unfortunately the concept of “Radical Love” in healthcare is quite radical. Health care has become so technological and sterile in its approach that a loving touch is often thought of as a waste of precious care giver time. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center CEO Laurie Eberst was named CEO of the year by the Baptist Healing Trust. Eberst is an advocate of the concept of radical love. Most health care workers entered the field to make a positive difference in the lives of those they touch. This concept brings them back to those roots. This makes radical love an easy sell to the
