The Four Functions of Management Every organization, however it is designed, has developed and implemented its own management functions in order for it to run efficiently and accomplish the vision, goals and objectives that are set for the organization. The management functions allow any organization to handle the tactical plans and set decisions. It also enables the organization to have a controlled plan over preventive procedures, but the four functions are actually highly successful when carried out in the day-to-day realities of running an organization. The four management functions are Planning, Organization, Leading, and Controlling. Planning is the setting of performance objectives and deciding how to achieve them. Organizing is the arranging of tasks of people and other resources to accomplish the work. Leading is the inspiring of people to work hard to achieve high performance. Finally, controlling is the measuring of performance and taking action to ensure your desired results. A manager must arrange these functions in order to reach company goals and maintain a competitive advantage. In order for these functions to succeed in an operational manner, an understanding must be reached concerning the basics in which these functions are in relationship to the business structure (T. &. Bateman). To achieve the best results from the four functions of management they should be used by all levels of management and non management employees. All four functions of management are equally important and help the organization in different ways. For the purpose of this paper, I will define the four functions of management and show examples of how these functions relate to my current employer the Institute of Health and Weight Sciences of New York.
