Everybody wants to spice up their looks with a great natural glow. Tan completes outfits and adds somewhat exotic hint to your appearance. It looks harmless and it seems like tanning only benefits your skin, but as you look deeper into the process, huge issues are starting to rise. Although for general society golden tan is an indicator of healthy skin, health professionals disagree. In professionals’ eyes tan is considered a skin damage that causes premature aging of the skin, links directly to skin cancer, and puts addicted youth in danger. Tanning beds speed up the aging process of the skin. The studies show that the skin exposed to the UV rays decrease the life of healthy skin. Many people that use tanning beds on a regular basis will notice how quickly their skin loses elasticity and its youthful glow. The skin starts to sag, develops wrinkles, and feels more leathery. Unlike natural tanning, artificial tanning has a higher percentage of making people appear older than they really are. The UV rays used in tanning beds increases the speed of skin aging, but that is not where the biggest problem lies. Any tan, especially artificial, increases the risks of skin cancer. People that use tanning beds on a regular bases are more likely to develop skin cancer. Every year more than a thousand people are diagnosed with skin cancer due to the exposure to the UV rays from tanning beds. When skin cancer is found quickly, it can be successfully treated. The bad news is that not many people will catch it until it is to late, because they only start to take notice when there have been changes in skin’s texture and appearance which are the symptoms of skin cancer in advanced stage. “There is no question that this exposure causes thousands of skin cancer deaths a year,” says the president of the Society of Melanoma Research - David E.
