Jim choked his father for not standing up for him and he stormed out of the house. Jim wanted to confront his parents about his problems that he has and he wanted to fix it. He does not want to run away from his problems anymore, he wants his parents and him to faced the problems they are having together. Jim wanted his father to learn how to stand up for himself. Ray Stark (Jim Backus), Jim s father, does not have respect from his son and Jim s mother.
This is made evident everytime Atticus tries to keep his children, Jem and Scout Fich, from dangerous situations and when he tries to give them a better life. For example, Atticus does not want the same life he had for his future children, so he decides to take action. "Atticus Finch, went to Montgomery to read law..." (4). He left his homwtown to pursue a carer as a lawyer so that he could change his life for the better. He further expresses his love towards his children when he wants them to go away for the night a mob comes to the jail.
Jim was more of a father figure in Huck’s life rather than his actual father. The opening of the book displays a series of events for Huck, " Huck awaits the arrival of his father, escapes him, rushes off in a blaze of ambivalence with his alternate father, Jim." (Segal 20) Just like any child, Huck was in need of a father in his life. He couldn’t talk to the Widow about everything and she wasn’t really his “family.” Huck was extremely rebellious growing up because he didn’t have a father figure tell him right from wrong. The only person Huck could relate to was his friend Tom Sawyer; unfortunately Tom wasn’t the best role model for Huck.
The differences between the father and son are so abundant that Baba emphasizes, “If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d not believe he’s my son” (Hossieni 25). Amir listens to this hurtful quote and becomes more persistent than before to achieve his father’s friendship and adoration. Amir starts trying to intrigue his father that he even starts to play sports. It was apparent however, that this did not turn out to be one of Amir’s strengths. Baba’s shortage of emotion led Amir into an event between Hassan and himself.
4. The notion of the “generation gap” is portrayed in the film is when Jim confronts his father by yelling and no respect then running out the house. This is because Jim feels that his father is not being fair and should stand up for himself, while he has his father thinking that he should just listen to what the wife says. Another example is when the police try to talk to Plato and calm him down to stop him from shooting anyone. This portrays the generation gap because when they are trying to talk to Plato they address everything calm.
Julian believes family is more important, while David sides with Justice. Wes struggles to decide between justice and family, which can clearly be seen throughout the novel. Though Wes knew his brother Frank was capable of the crimes, he didn’t want him to go to jail and refused to admit that the events which had unfolded were true. Wes carried out investigations hoping to find evidence proving that his brother wasn’t guilty. An example was when David saw his father Wes at the Coffee Cup.
On the other are truth and justice. The pull of family ties is strong, but soon Sarty realizes that what his father does is the wrong thing to do. Even though Sarty betrays his father at the end he but he realized that he must be put out the conflicts, and aim for a better furute, one that his father was not giving them. The biggest conflict is revealing the depth of his struggle to find his place among the demands of his father and his own developing ideas of morality for the first time. Sarty is overwhelmed by fear, grief to a better future, and
Sonny’s brother is older and he should know better that people ought to follow their dreams and do what they like to do in life so far as it isn't illegal .Baldwin tells us how Sonny's brother gets into an argument with Sonny when their mother dies. Sonny’s brother acting as a parent asks Sonny what he wants to do and Sonny tells him music. He doesn’t take Sonny serious because to him, you can't make a living out of music meanwhile people do make a living out of music. And he doesn't understand that music is the only thing Sonny wants to do. He tells Sonny that people can't always do what they want to do but Sonny who understands the world better argues that people ought to do what they want to do if not what do they live for (119-122) .I think Sonny is right, people should be able to follow their dreams .I’m riding with Sonny on that one, everyone should be able to follow their dreams because to me, I don’t think you can be happy in a career you’ve never liked.
Koiki’s decisions are once again influenced by his family when his father is ill and he is denied access on to Murray Island. Fuelled by his anger towards not being able to see his dying father and that he cannot move his family back to Murray Island, Koiki begins his land right claim. Koiki’s reasons for making these significant decisions were inspired by his love for his family. Although Perkins’ Mabo addresses other issues such as the effects of discrimination and the role of the individual in creating change, it is true that there is a major focus on the meaning of family and the support it gives. The film shows the crucial importance of father son relationships, the strong relationship between Koiki and his adopted father Benny influence Koiki’s appeal to the land right.
This charactersitic seems to be running in the family, as his brother Joey, also resorted to violence a few times. This coincides with his fear of losing. He refuses to lose anything he gained. Not only does that apply to his wife, but to his games and even how to obtain the girl he wants. He refused to lose her to someone with more money (a hotshot as he called him) as he also took it hard when he was forced to purposely lose his title match.
