Iman Rashid The Terri Schiavo Case The Terry Schiavo case is the most widely known coma case. This case is about a woman name Theresa Marie Schiavo, who at the age of 26, collapsed into a coma, causing her brain to be deprived of oxygen for five minutes thus putting her into a persistent vegetative state for about 15 years ( meaning she had very little brain activity). The conflicts started when husband, Michael Schiavo wanted to remove her off life support, while her parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, argued to keep their daughter alive. It is clear that every one of us has different opinions on whether we want to keep our loved ones on life support or how long we should keep them on it, but the question is who should decide…show more content…
Letting go of a loved one is a lot easier than seeing them in such harsh conditions. But on the other hand Michael Schiavo, I think had the right to choose for his wife because, to me once a person is married, they now share everything with their spouse, whether it be secrets, money, or even children. The point of getting married is to live free of your parents and to dedicate your life with your spouse, so although Terri did not have a living will, I think her husband had the right to choose what was best for her. In Islam a person is considered completely dead when the person stops breathing, and has no brain activity. ( as stated in the Quran). You have no right to take some one’s life and only the creator can make such a drastic decision "to god we belong, and to him is our return". Making a decision such like the one that Terri’s husband made now puts him responsible for his wife’s life. Only god (Allah) is allowed to decide what he wants to do with a person’s life, which is all based back to each person’s plan that god has laid out for them and whether they lived a life of misery, happiness or pain, god (Allah) has either a reward or punishment for every action.
