Summary of the whole of act 3 Banquo is reflecting on the coronation of Macbeth, he is wondering to himself “are the witches prophecies true? Macbeth became Thane of Cawdor, now he has become king, maybe it is true that I shall be the forefather of Scottish kings to come” Macbeth and Lady Macbeth ask Banquo to attend the feast they will host that night. Banquo accepts their invitation. Macbeth intends to murder Banquo; his wife and him feel that the business that they began by killing Duncan is not yet complete because there are still threats to the throne that must be eliminated including Banquo. Macbeth got an assassin to kill Banquo and his son. The murderer killed Banquo but in the process blew out a torch giving Fleance the opportunity to escape. Macbeth is informed about what happened and is infuriated. Macbeth goes to his guests and suddenly see Banquo’s ghost sitting in the chair which horrifies Macbeth. He starts to communicate with Banquo’s ghost who he can only see. His guest only sees the king of Scotland talking to someone who is not there which starts to concern them. But Lady Macbeth reassures them saying it is normal for him to do that while trying to snap Macbeth out of it. Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft tells the bearded witches that when Macbeth comes the next day, they must summon visions and spirits whose messages will fill him with a false sense of security and “draw him on to his confusion” Lennox and another Lord suspect Fleance for the murder of Banquo but suspect Macbeth also whom they call a “tyrant.
