Mood disorders are thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Traumatic events can also cause a person to become depressed. Personality disorders – affects the individual's patterns of thinking, feelings and behaviour. People with a personality disorder may find that their beliefs and attitudes are different from the majority of people. Others may find the individual's behaviour unusual, or erratic and may find it difficult to be around them.

In conclusion, experience has shown that negative attitudes often impede meaningful suicide prevention efforts. These obstacles to prevention often embody a state of mind (before any inquiry begins) that inmate suicides cannot be prevented. Suicidal behaviors occur when there is a situation or event that the individual find overwhelming. People with bipolar disorder, depression, drug or alcohol dependence, or even stressful life issues can be vulnerable to suicide or suicidal behaviors. Individuals who try to commit suicide wish they could just disappear away from life situations that seem impossible to deal with.
So then, why is it so hard to comprehend the facts and reasoning behind assisted suicide?
