One of many reasons to visit a hospital is when you have strep throat. Strep throat is a bacterial infection in the throat and the tonsils. It is a most common infection caused by Streptococcus bacteria. Strep bacteria are very contagious and can be spread by nasal secretions and saliva. If it’s not treated, it can damage the heart and kidneys. This is why strep throat needs to be identified and treat it properly. If not treated properly with medication, it may have potential negative effects on major organs of the body. Description Anyone can get strep throat but it is mostly common in children from ages 5 to 15. Strep throat is most common in the late fall, winter, and early spring. This disease passes from one person to another by mucous membrane and droplet contact such as sneezing, coughing, and sharing utensils. If one family member of a household gets infected by strep throat, it is highly likely that other members of the house might be exposed to the infection. Causes Strep throat is bacterial infection that causes pain in the throat and inflammation. This condition is caused by the bacterium group A Streptococcus. These bacteria can found all over the world; in the United States every year there are over 10 million people that are infected by this bacteria. Group c and g strep bacteria can also infect the throat but it’s very rare. A sore throat may usually be caused by a viral infection, allergies, smoke, and dry air. A person cannot assume one may have a strep throat by having a sore throat. Strep throat and sore throat are not the same. Symptoms People who come into contact with this bacterium infection would not notice signs and symptoms for two to five days after being exposed. This is simply due to the incubation time required for the infection to reproduce and overtake the immune system. One may see signs and symptoms after a few days such
