There are many types of melanoma, some harmless and some deadly, but both can be cured if detected at an early stage. There are many ways to prevent melanoma, like limiting UV radiation to the skin and abstaining from tanning beds. However, melanoma can be detected on anybody and it is important to know how to act in time. Melanoma is the most dangerous of skin cancers. It is a skin cancer that begins with an uncontrolled growth of cells that damages tissues. It develops when unrepaired DNA damages the skin cells, triggers mutations and causes the skin cells to multiply and form malignant tumors. The tumors originate in the pigment that produces melanocytes in the base layer of the epidermis. Melanoma is not always cancer of the skin. There are many types of skin cancer. Cutaneous melanoma is the most common type of skin cancers, though all types of melanoma re dangerous and deadly. Skin cancers are divided into two parts; Non-Melanoma, which is usually referred to as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, these skin cancers can be removed with surgery because they do not spread to other parts of the body. The second type, melanoma, is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. There are three types of melanoma; Cutaneous melanoma (skin melanoma), is the most common type. Mucousal melanoma occurs in any part of the body. It can be caught in the nose, throat, mouth and genital areas. Ocular melanoma is cancer of the eyes. Melanoma starts off as a mole in the skin. They look black or brown but grow to be blue, pink, purple or white. Melanoma moles are asymmetrical while normal moles are symmetrical.
