The film and book Shawshank Redemption is a story of a wrongly persecuted banker, Andy Dufresne, where he befriends a fellow convict, Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding, both serving time at Shawshank Prison with life sentences. Once at Shawshank, Andy quickly realizes that the prison warden and staff are corrupt and hypocritical which allows him to use his skills as a banker to gain the trust of the prison staff and warden thus allowing him to escape. The novella “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” was written by Stephen King and published in 1982. The film Shawshank Redemption was produced by Niki Marvin and Castle Rock Entertainment directed by Frank Darabont released in1994; casting Tim Robbins (Andy Dufresne), Morgan Freeman (Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding), Bob Gunton (Warden Norton), William Sadler (Heywood), Clancy Brown (Captain Byron T. Hadley), Gil Bellows (Tommy), Mark Rolston (Bogs Diamond), and James Whitmore (Brooks Hatlen). Though there are several dissimilarities between the film and book, the largest being found with the wardens, Tommy Williams, and Andy’s money; still allows the viewer to enjoy the film in absence of the missing details from the book.
Months later, Unexpectedly Joe Dick, Daniel William’s roommate is now suspect number two. Ford immediately started his cruel interrogation, pushing the death penalty on him. Joe was now asked to take the same poly graph test, his results were never released. He said during his interrogation he was mentally drained as well. Once again another man in fear of dying tells detective ford that he and Daniel were both at the crime scene.

Clarence is suspected, but Clyde helps him to escape the police only to then paralyze him with a neurotoxin and slowly torture him to death. Finding Clarence's dismembered corpse, Detectives Dunnigan and Garza arrest Clyde as the chief suspect. Clyde offers Nick a full confession in exchange for a mattress in his cell, and Nick reluctantly agrees. Clyde represents himself at his hearing before Judge Laura Burch and is about to be granted bail, but launches into a tirade against the flaws of the legal system and is held in contempt of court. Granted his mattress, Clyde confesses both to murdering Clarence and to switching the drugs used in Rupert's execution.
Shawshank Redemption is a movie about prisoners finding solace, redemption, and freedom. The main character Andy Dufresne is put in Shawshank prison for supposedly murdering his wife and through acts of decency he is able to devise a way out of prison. Along the way he meets another prisoner, Red, who undergoes trials and tribulations to receive parole. Finally when he receives parole he finds it hard to adapt in the real world without the institution of prison and violates his parole to find Andy in Mexico where he is happily reunited with his friend. Through the characters effort to find freedom and solace they experience a lot of significant themes of existentialism.

Coppola, 1972) grossing an unprecedented $245,066,411, which inevitably funded Coppola’s biggest picture Apocalypse Now (Dir. Coppola 1972). This essay will focus predominantly on Apocalypse Now (1979) and how Coppola’s view of the Vietnam War translates into his 153 minute epic. My aim is to identify both positives and negatives about his film in relation to the question, eventually summarising my views on Apocalypse Now and how I feel it addresses the Vietnam War.
Paul Edgecomb is the head guard on the Green Mile when a new inmate is brought into his custody: a giant African American man, John Coffey, who was falsely accused of raping and killing two young white girls in Louisiana. When Johnny Friendly’s gang murders his brother Charlie, Terry realizes the union corruption makes the decision to go against the union and make them pay, now that he’s felt the pain personally. The initial stage of the film, Terry Malloy is a part of a corrupt and threatening environment. He is a careless character, who is easily directed. However in time, Terry learns to stop being a follower and decide to start reclaiming power of his own life. At the beginning of the film Terry is initially ruled by Johnny Friendly and his mob.

This theme is most visible in Darabont character warden Norton and the prison guards and in the scene on the roof top and the Andy in the whole scenes. He ends up talking about tax schemes with the chief guard. He breaks a deal that he’ll help the chief guard with his tax if each of his co-workers can have 3 beers each. The scene ends with Andy watching the other men drink with a strange smile on his face because he knows he’s done something better. The camera angles in this scene add to the ideas of the film. The scene is characterised by the use of wide shots which show the contrast between the expanse of the roof and the confinement of the jail.
