Shakespeare, the Untold Story William Shakespeare was born to John and Mary Arden Shakespeare in Stratford- upon- Avon. Shakespeare was baptized April 26 1564, but his birthday is unknown. (Schoenbaom 1981, 24- 26) Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of eighteen. It is believed that the reason for William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway’s marriage at such a young age is because she was pregnant. Just six months after the marriage, Anne Hathaway gave birth to there first child, Susanna; two years later a set of twins; Hamnet and Judith Shakespeare followed. (Schoenbaom 1987, 94) William Shakespeare has been named the world’s greatest author by many people. After the birth of his twins, there are few traces of Shakespeare until he is mentioned as part of the London theatre scene in 1592. Scholars refer to this gap as the “Lost years”. (Shakespeare. Palomar.edu) From 1594, Shakespeare’s play were performed only by the Lord Chamberlain’s men. The Lord Chamberlain’s men was a company owned by Shakespeare and a group of players, that soon became the leading playing company in London. (wikepedia.org) Shakespeare done the most of his work between 1589 and 1613. He started writing tragedies, and during his last phase, he wrote romances. Some believe that the death of his child, Hamnet Shakespeare contributed to the writing’s of his most famous plays.
