Professor Baker 7 Feb. 2013 Comp II Critique of “The Catbird Seat” In the “The Catbird Seat” by David J. Birnbaum the story portray a bitter, but yet sarcastic tone that shows the author's point of view of everyone's sympathetic and pity towards him. In reality, he seems tough on the outside, and accepts the benefits that are given to him, but he has that hesitation of acceptance when people are giving him the benefits. Of course, he accepts everything, because who doesn't appreciate benefits that are given to them. When he got in the accident before his eighteenth birthday; he didn't know that he would be getting special privileges from other people until his first incident at the hospital. At that point, he started to take advantages of everything that is beneficial to him.
Johnson replied, taking the paper from Harries. When he finished writing his name and number, he gave the paper back. “Thank you. Can you tell me where your daughter was the night she left the house?” “Well, I was told she went to a bonfire at Ocean Beach with a couple of friends.” “You were told?” Harries asked. “Yes, I was at work at the time and didn’t come home until around 6:45 that night.” Harries nodded his head, “I see.
By saying this it forces Mr Birling to speak to him and start the conversation. Mr Birling answers by trying to take charge of the situation he does this by at first asking the inspector to sit down and then he starts to try and avoid the subject of why the inspector is actually he says I was lord mayor two years ago and I’m still on the bench he says this almost as a warning and is trying to get the inspector to back off. This causes the other characters in the room to feel uneasy which creates a tense atmosphere, Gerald immediately starts to agree with everything his soon to be father in law says whereas Eric is much more blunt. The inspector puzzles the readers by letting Mr Birling rant on and then acting as though all of Mr Birling’s life achievements are worth nothing. At this point we still don’t know why he is here, but he creates the impression that everyone present is
They begged Zeitoun to go but he was much to proud, so they promised to call each other every day until the storm was over. Lastly, I felt that the book Zeitoun had an amazing outcome. While Kathy and the girls were on the way to Arizona a few thing got in their way. They had to drive the whole way instead of catching a plane because os the storm. Since it was such a long drive, Kathy had to pull over at night so they could get some sleep.
The year was 1939, it was a hot summer’s day the city of Melbourne, the temperature had just reached 41 Degrees. Antonio was on his way to his local pub to meet with his friend Baldo. Both Antonio and Baldo worked in the tobacco industry. As Antonio strolled from his small weatherboard house he thought of his beautiful wife Gina, her classic Italian looks, soft olive skin and long dark hair, he thought of his two daughters Georgia who was 6 and Marta who was 8, how lucky he was to have a job and a family in a war torn time. Screeching tires and the sound of glass breaking pulled Antonio from his daydream as he neared the pub he saw an army of policeman dragging men out from the pub and throwing them in to the back of police vans.
He also began to realize how nice people were to him; people who would normally avoid a young long-haired teenager completely. Even such luxuries as being upgraded to first-class flights were extended to Birnbaum, and he gladly accepted. Although Birnbaum had lost the use of his legs, he seemed to almost abuse his perks as a handicapped citizen. One day while barging into an elevator, as was his norm, he had unknowingly cut-off an elderly blind man. That moment he realized he was not completely immune from common courtesy, he realized there were people out there who had it worse.
Maya Bamba Mr. Holland English Literature and Composition 12 1 October 2013 Working in New Orleans “Ugh, it is way too early!” I said to Jackson as we got on the bus. “I know.” He says as he takes his seat. We left the Tulane University campus and headed into New Orleans’ lower ninth ward. I watched out the window as the fancy hotels and the famous Superdome turned into damaged houses and abandoned hospital buildings. My thoughts wandered back to the days of vacation that occurred just two days earlier, before the People to People program began.

We decided to go because we needed new clothes for school which was going to start the next day and I guess that’s where my story’s going to start. “So are you ready for the real world?” she asked in a half serious half teasing way, as she did since I told her I was going to a school named Aquinas on the other side of town. “No, not
Theme and Narrative Elements Theme and Narrative Elements In the short story, I’m Going! A Comedy in One Act by Tristan Bernard, the theme of the story is sacrificial love. The story starts with the couple sitting together discussing the weather on a Sunday afternoon, it is raining. The rain is symbolic and ironically sadness is noted since Henri wants to go to the races. A day at the races should be warm and the sun should be out.
To begin with, some argue that under some circumstances texting can be regarded as safe and helpful. This is definitely true in cases where one finds his or herself stuck in traffic and in dire need of urgent help. For example, if Mr. Anderson is has to communicate to his colleagues that he will be late for a board meeting it seems appropriate for him to alert them by text that he would be late. While this might appear to be a great idea, it undoubtedly takes away the driver’s attention even if it is for a few seconds thereby making him unaware of his surroundings and this could prove to be detrimental. Paying little to no attention while in traffic could cause minor accidents and the use of a phone should certainly be avoided at all cost.
