The rights and wrongs of science and technology Science and technology have existed even before the sixteenth century and they do not exist or take place in a vacuum, in other words science and technology had always impacted our societies and the cultural, societal, political and individual concerns that have been associated with them have always been there but were not raised in a manner that they are in today’s world. Our society needs and desires scientific and technological advancements that allow people to improve their quality of life, as they have a significant influence in reshaping our views of the world. In this paper, we will discuss the rights and wrongs of science and technology in the three different fields of computer technology, biometrics and genetic engineering. Through the use of appropriate secondary resources, we will analyze the effects of these scientific or technological progressions and how they have triggered negative responses amongst societies by manipulating the norms, as believed by some. Technology is the application of scientific knowledge and is used as a tool to solve specific problems. Technological advances have brought major developments and changes in the world. Indeed, 20th century science and technology has entirely and irreversibly changed the way people meet, learn, work, play, interact worship and do work. But whenever technology and science go beyond the fixed picture of norms in a society, groups comes together loosely bound by policies and ethical standards, resistant to adapt to those changes are to be expected. “One of the most important aspects of science is that scientific progress regularly rises important ethical questions” (Johnson, 2012).
