Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield recounts the days following his expulsion from Pencey Prep, a private school. After a fight with his roommate, Stradlater, Holden leaves school two days early to explore New York before returning home, interacting with teachers, prostitutes, nuns, an old girlfriend, and his sister along the way.

Salinger’s The Catcher In the Rye and John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath differ in storyline, both novels convey a similar idea that the corruption of society influences the innocence of the individual and family. Within J.D. Salinger’s novel, the reader views the life of a sixteen year old troubled teen, Holden Caulfield. After the loss of his younger brother, Allie, from leukemia and being expelled from Pency Prep, Holden decides to leave and wander in New York.
As the year goes on, I can gradually add more work. Each day when they enter the classroom, dropping off their take home folder will be routine. I will collect their homework assignments from their folders and return their folders back to them, along with their weekly assignment sheet. Their weekly assignment sheet will always stay in their homework folder. If assignments aren't turned in for the day, I will ask the student why it wasn't completed and send a note home to the parents.

Chapter One "A Rough Start" I would call this chapter "A Rough Star". I say this because in this chapter Holden mention how he misses his brother D.B. who has moved to Hollywood to per sue his own career. He also talks about how he goes to a school called Pency Prep, but has flunked out because he has failed four out of five classes. This is very similar to his past school records at other schools, always finding a way to get kicked out.

Falling into Adulthood In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield, a 16 year old boy, struggles to mature and conform to the expectations of society as he enters adulthood while he tries to cope with the death of his little brother, Allie. Holden doesn’t like what he sees as he starts to meet new people and venture into the world. His travels in New York City cause him to lose his childhood innocence from encounters with people who are phonies that only care about money and sex. These losses of innocence are shown by a recurring motif in the story, falling.
The only thing he can think of is his dead brother. That shows that Allie’s death has given Holden a strong base he can hold on to. Holden always had a positive image of his brother, and if he has that locked in his mind and something he’ll always like. He said that Allie was 1,000 times nicer than anyone that was alive, and that means he looked up to his brother a great deal. Phoebe symbolized innocence.
