R.L. Stine. Since his birth he has been known as many things, an author, television show co-creator, television show head writer, head editor for magazines, and much more. He is clearly a very successful American, but how he became known for these marvelous feats is much more interesting, gripping, and intriguing. Stine was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 8, 1943 to Jewish parents (wiki/R._L._Stine). His mother Anne Stine, was a homemaker, and his father Lewis Stine, was a shipping clerk. As a child he was always very interested in books containing cheeky humor, and creepy, eerie stories. While all the other kids his age were outside playing games or conversing with each other, he would be in his room submerged in another book. It was when he turned the age of nine that he began his own writing career. It all started when he one day ventured into his attic only to find a dusty, rust-ridden typewriter. He rushed down to his room, closed the door and plopped down in a chair facing his desk. Right away he set to work, writing joke books for his friends at school. After continuing for years to write for his friends he finally graduated high school where he then attended Ohio State University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While at OSU he became editor of the university’s humor magazine, the Sundial for three years only to soon graduate with his degree in English. After graduating from college in 1965 he moved to New York City where he wrote dozens of humor books for kids under the pen name, Jovial Bob Stine, and created the humor magazine Bananas.
