HSC 037 Promote and implement health and safety in health and Social care Health and safety basically means assessing your workplace and reducing the risks. As an employee I have to abide by the health and safety at work act 1974. This means I need to attend any mandatory training I have been put on, go to supervisions, adhere to policies and procedures, use correct equipment, do not misuse faulty equipment, report any risks that I have seen and co-operate with my employer. This is all to ensure the safety of myself and others. My employer must follow the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992, their responsibilities are to provide the mandatory training and supervisions, ensure policies and procedures are put in place, plan, organise, control, monitor and review health and safety arrangements, make sure the equipment is available and to maintain risk assessments and to deal with chemicals and other substances safely.
Regularly do risk assessments so that they can minimise and identify any potential risk that could hard staff or service users. To make sure that I am safe at all times and I don’t put others at risk due to my actions. Make sure that we only do things that we are trained to do and the way that we have been trained to do so. Keep our training all up to date and make sure that we make note of any changes passed on by our manager. The equipment in question would need to be removed or a do not use notice put on it until it was possible to remove, it would need to be replaced after the facilities have been deep cleaned or sterilised. Infection Prevention and Control Good infection prevention and control is essential to ensure that people who use health and social care services receive safe and effective care. It is your employer’s responsibility that training, risk assessments and equipment are in place to enable you to carry out your daily duties to minimise risk to yourself or service users. It is your responsibility to follow all training and use all equipment and PPE provided by your employer. All employers are bound by The Health and Social Care Act 2008 and by the 10 codes of practice laid down by the CQC on how they judge a care provider and how it complies with the cleanliness and infection control requirements. A risk assessment should be carried out, efforts made to minimise the risk of injury and the need for equipment identified. All care staff should be fully trained to move and handle and use equipment safely. This will reduce the risk of injury to staff, individuals and others. In addition, these regulations include numerical guidelines to help determine when assessment is required. No statement is given as a limit below which handling may be considered safe.
