Occupational Therapy does not use medical devices. The decontamination process used with the equipment used within occupation therapy is quite different to what is required with medical devices. Occupational therapy deals with many different types of equipment from a small therapeutic spoon to a large mattress elevating equipment. On issuing any equipment ensuring safe and fit for purpose. The patient receiving the equipment is given an equipment loan form. This form is in three parts and will have patients name and address and a list of equipment being issued each piece of equipment has a occupational therapy green metallic unit number which is written onto loan form, along with a description of type of equipment. this allows for tracking of equipment (please note tracking system is up for review) Form: White part to patient. Green placed in patient file Blue placed in departmental loan form file. (Audit Purposes) My understanding of Quality Management System relating to my position as occupational therapy technical instructor Is when ordering equipment for the department I ensure not to over stock and to ensure stock levels are maintained. That all equipment is clean and fit for purpose, any new equipment is evaluated, demonstrated and deemed safe to be issued as standard stock. That standard stock and specialized stock equipment items are durable and of best value. Policy for the provision of equipment states : A To ensure that equipment is supplied to match assessment of need. B Where choice is possible to have regard to patient/carer preference C To ensure equipment is installed correctly/safely where D To adequately instruct the patient /carer. E To provide advice regarding maintenance and details of how to report any defect. F To issue written safety/ manufacturers instruction where
