The senior management teams of all four hospitals identified this as a great opportunity to reduce cost, increase OR efficiencies and standardize product/equipment by developing custom clinical hip and knee packs. The goal of the understanding phase is not only to identify ways to reduce cost or improve value, but to understand options in the market, internal capabilities and end user needs. Using spend analysis will then identify the cost of the custom packs at each hospital, the number of items included in the custom packs, the total spend of the custom packs, and each suppliers current spend providing the custom packs. This information will allow categorization by common suppliers and components and establishes the baseline for measuring future improvements. Contract analysis will indicate spend that is on and off contract and the number of affected suppliers with contracts.
As I read the entries from my reflective journal, I could see how my focus shifted from assisting patient with his basic needs at the beginning of the nursing school to more comprehensive nursing care today. My years of experience in education and later in quality control, influenced values that have translated well into the nursing field. First and foremost are work and client safety. The quality of service, attention to detail, and
Introduction Effective leadership by professionals is crucial in all healthcare organizations. The way workers define leadership has changed from generation to generation, however, a common description of leadership is the motivating behavior of an individual directing the activities of a group towards a shared goal. (Ward, 2017) Influencing group activities and coping with change are some of the key aspects that an individual in a leadership role will be working towards. According to an article, "management is about coping with complexity" and "leadership is about coping with change", therefore, both aspects are critical to a successful leader. (Blumenthal, Bernard, Bohnen, & Bohmer, 2012).
There has been a recent move in political philosophy to deal with real world problems and shows how philosophy can contribute to public democratic debate on pressing issues of personal responsibility (Brown, 2009). Use of Incentive Spirometers Sheila Aranda Spokane Community College November 1, 2012 Evidence Based Nursing Practice The purpose and direction of this paper is to first choose a nursing procedure that is commonly used on the nursing unit where I was assigned for my Capstone experience. There is a brief description of the care unit. The reason why I chose this particular procedure for my paper. The core staffing group will be able to handle the daily fluctuations in volume while maintaining continuity of care and keeping stress levels low. Jackie Larson, a Senior Vice President at Avantas, a provider of labor management technology, services and strategies for the healthcare industry states, “Core staff are those who hold an ongoing FTE (full-time-equivalency) commitment within a department.” (Larson, 2015). To develop a core staff there are many more components to consider than number of FTE’s. According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of “core” is defined as, “the central part of a body, mass, or part”. (Merriam-Webster Medical/Core, 2015).
Nursing accountability is also considered in relation to the contemporary Western health care system as a whole. New and critical essays examine the nature of professional codes, care, medical judgement, nursing research and the law. Controversial issues, such as feeding those who cannot or will not eat, the epidemiology of HIV and dilemmas of choice and risk in the care of the elderly are tackled honestly and openly. Geoffrey Hunt is the first philosopher to have been employed by the National Health Service. In 1992, his controversial National Centre for Nursing Ethics at the Hammersmith Hospital was closed down, reopening in 1993 at the University of East London.
These statistics represent individual people who have their own needs, but share the common need for their healthcare professional to provide expert care to them during their time in hospital. Castledine (2004) tells us that all nurses should carry out a patient assessment automatically as this is the first stage in ascertaining the health of the patient. A past medical history should be obtained and a physical assessment made as
Watson’s caring philosophy is used to guide transformative models of caring and healing practices for nurses, different healthcare professionals, caregivers and patients worldwide. Watson believes that it is possible to read, study, learn, research, teach about the theory, but to truly understand one has to personally experience it. (Sitzman & Watson, 2014). According to Jean Watson health is defined as high level of physical, social and mental functioning. Watson indicates throughout her work that all human beings have inherent needs to participate in caring exchanges, both as giver and receiver and that nursing holds the essence of this fundamental need.
Running head: Family Health Assessment Family Health Assessment Grand Canyon University: Family Center Health Promotion NRS-429V August 8th, 2012 Family Health Assessment Everyday changes in healthcare make family assessment more important as ever as a tool for health care providers seeking to assist the family move themselves toward higher levels of wellness. A family system is a group of individuals and the pattern of relationships between them (Servonsky & Gibbons, 2005). The family defines its views of health, makes decisions regarding health practices, and is the most frequent provider of health care to family members. In 1987, Marjory Gordon challenged professional nurses to adopt a standard nursing framework to guide data collection in the assessment phase of the nursing process (Nettle, et al, 1993). Gordon delineated a typology of 11 health patterns as a universal framework for nurses.
