Organized crime participants are master manipulators and can easily instill fear in the citizens within the area. This fear is often times enough to keep innocent people quiet when being questioned by law enforcement. This practice has helped organized crime not only survive but evolve within the United States. In addition, when the criminal group has the assistance of local law enforcement and judicial officials, it becomes common for a criminal case to end in a dismissal. In conclusion, it can be said that crime and politics have existed in America for decades, Money, and power are both present in crime and politics.
Organized Crime CJA 384 October 28, 2012 Organized crime is systematic, illegal activity for profit. I would describe organized crime as a crime operation in which every move is carefully planned. I have always thought of organized crime as “smart crime,” the type of crime that doesn’t leave traces and the end result leaves everyone involved with significant amounts of cash. Loan sharking, extortion, and racketeering are the types of crimes that I think of as being the most common with these criminal groups. However, drug smuggling and weapons trafficking are also quite common.
When thinking of organized crime two television shows come to mind the sopranos and the wire. Organized crime is a group of individuals regardless of race or gender who work together to obstruct justice working with corrupt individuals in key positions, such as government officials and police officers. These organized criminals work in controlling neighborhoods and cities selling drugs and using force to intimidate people around them. When using force to intimidate the people in the neighborhood and cities the organized criminals run. Force such as assault and murder of individuals to set an example of what will happen to anyone who interferes in the business of the organization such as the mafia is used.
An example of defiant individualism are gangs that are capable of producing benefits for their members and other people in society, they as well work in their rank, and regulating leadership. He also goes on explaining gangs in times of immigration and how these communities have developed in the Unites States. Some of the gangs that are brought from other countries are like Chinese and Vietnamese which they have a long history of gangs in their own societies prior to immigration. These gangs are involved in drug trafficking and gambling. The article continues on by trying to see what gangs are involved with and their progression of consuming or selling drugs and to sharpen their power to not only the society but to their competitors against the other gangs.
Al Capone bought police departments, chiefs, politicians, fire chiefs, you name it. Anyone who had any influence or interest in prosecuting Capone for his activities he bought off, extorted, or killed to keep his businesses running. This type of corruption is still found in our system to this date with corrupt cops and politicians taking drug money or other illegal funds or gifts in exchange for leniency or turning a blind eye on criminal behavior of certain organized crime groups. Other relationships are established as well with legitimate business owners or other organizations to establish a means of productivity to move their product from material to cash flow. These relationships can consist of members of an organization and local street thugs, or business owners and members of the organization.

This is a broad description of what organized crime is, the reality is that organized crime cannot be defined in such a simple way. Organized crime has many elements and a variety of group dynamics, but some elements are similar to every group. Most people’s perception of what organized crime is not an accurate description of the reality of organized crime. The following will include a personal perception of what organized crime was thought to be and how it compares to the definitions of organized crime.
Soldiers have a strong sense of commitment to their set and are extremely dangerous because of their willingness to use violence both to obtain the respect of gang members and to respond to any person who “disrespects” the set. “Associates” are not full members, but they identify with the gang and take part in various criminal activities. To the extent that women belong to the gang, they are usually associate members and tend to be used by their male counterparts to carry weapons, hold drugs, or prostitute themselves to make money for their

Organized Crime is very political enriched “in politics from the development of unlawful marketplaces, to the declarations of the size of the actual threat, and then also moving pressure associated with laws to address the issue” (Naylor, 1999). A lot of the issues come from offenses and politics. When you put politics and offenses together it could have several negative effects on our country and its’ people.
These new gang chapters sometimes become rivals to the original gang (Major Prison Gangs). Prison gangs are responsible for a wide varity of illegal activities. Along with offering protection to its gang members, prison gangs handle the drug, tobacco, and alcohol trafficking inside the prison. They are able and often bribe or scare other inmates and staff to “look the other way” as they commit their crimes. Larger prison gangs can even influence organized crime outside of prison.
With the majority of street criminals with not much resources or power to conceal or distort the extent of the illegal actions, as corporate criminals have in their disposal, they are more prone to public attention and focus. Corporate crime is commonly well organized and often has a long list of victims that can include consumers, stockholders, employees, and competing businesses.
