Columbus Good Or Bad? I am going to talk about was columbus a good or bad guy and some of the things he did to deserve both good and bad but if I had to pick I think he was a bad guy. So first lets talk about what he did to be good he sailed to the new land and was brave enough to go by himself and he ended up in a new world where we live today and all of our ancestors followed him. But there's a lot more reasons why he is a bad guy. Alright in my opinion columbus was only looking to become a leader, become very wealthy, and of course he wanted a lot of power.

All the cultures were technologically stuck in the Stone Age,and ,combined with their lack of immunity to European diseases meant that these civilizations were overrun and conquered by Europeans. Columbus proved to the Europeans that the world was likely round and not flat. He didn't really prove that it was round, but his voyages increased the perceived likelihood that it was, and inspired other explorers who really did demonstrate that you could head west and end up east. That increased global trade significantly. It also increased global awareness of the other cultures that share this planet.
In 1607, a boat from England arrived in the New World. This boat was full of men who hoped they could make a profit of the Americas. The English comforted their consciences on the belief that everything they did in the colonies was for the benefit of the natives. They believed that as Englishmen they had a right to claim the New World as theirs. The English believed that the Native Americans were not making the land yield enough fruit and this perceived shortcoming caused the natives to forfeit their right to the land.
This might have been seen as being selfish to other countries, which is why other nations eventually started taxing goods from France. Minimizing imports was not the only measure France took to keep their money. They also built a large navy to protect against smugglers. The actions taken because of Colbert’s Mercantil system made France very wealthy, and eventually was adopted in all parts of the world to create wealth. The surpluses of money that Mercantilism creates still finance wars all around the globe in the 21st Century, and it is amazing that Colbert invented it back in the 17th Century.

It is seen by many people that Columbus used his power to conquer the people of the new world and commit genocide and slavery but at the same time Columbus brought knowledge to these people and enabled them to become as powerful as Western Civilization. Over time, Western Civilization has faced adversity but like Columbus, they have done whatever was necessary to keep expanding Western influence. The article also clarifies the debate over Columbus because it shows that Columbus cannot be looked at as good or bad; Columbus has to be looked at as an admiral, who took necessary action in the new world to keep Western Civilization on top. If Columbus had not taken the actions that he did, the people of the new world may have overthrown him and the western influence and that could have changed the world as we know it forever.
