Reading books change their mind and maybe as well as their lives. The value of literacy does not only play a role on kids but also on adults. After surviving from the holocaust, it is hard and hurt for Wiesel to recall the memory of what he and others had suffered but he chose to write the history down to let it remembered. He said[,] “I was duty-bound to give meaning to my survival, to justify each moment of my life. I knew the story had to be told.
Domestic Violence is sickening and while most victims feel they lack the appropriate support to enable them to positively alter their situation, there is always someone to help. The book that I will be speaking about today is called Indigo Blue, by Cathy Cassidy. The genre is drama and realistic fiction because of the violence, and real life situations that could relate to this. I would suggest this book to pre- teens and teenagers. Indigo is a responsible kid, who loves to daydream, with an unstable mother who is sick of putting up with her boyfriend, Max, and his abusive behaviour.
Edward makes a good impression and even falls in love with Peg's high school daughter Kim, but after a robbery with a framed Edward as the culprit, things in his life begin to go downhill. David and Edward have similar qualities in their personalities; in the way they address their challenges and social life. Through their curiosity to learn and understand they cope with the challenges in which they face. Each text shows different challenges, different ways to cope with their challenges but both bring the character to discover truth, and become wiser, stronger people. The texts uses different techniques to show emotion and the difficulty in faces these challenges, but each teach the same lesson of getting through their challenges, to go on with life, and learn from past
“The Truth of a War” A tragic death of a friend can impact a person’s life in many ways especially when it is personal and heartfelt. Re-telling a story about war and death is hard for any person. It takes memory, courage, and love to correctly express the death of a loved one. In O’ Brien’s “How to Tell a True War Story” the author makes it seem impossible to express a true war story. The author, O’Brien, seemed to shape the line between truth and story in a different direction.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a very important story for every high schooler to read. Although it does a little more then slightly hint at the racism in that time period, it also teaches readers. It shows racism in such a horrible light, that nobody could revert to such a thing. Our past isn’t always the nicest thing to look upon, but it’s still there. The difference is what we do in the future, and this novel teaches us that everyone is equal and shall be treated as
Just like Conrad’s parents in Ordinary People by Judith Guest, many are unaware of the dangers and thoughts faced by teens that could lead to suicide. It is very difficult for parents to deal with suicidal teens. When a teen attempts suicide it is a cry for help. Some parents might keep their thoughts to themselves after their teen attempted suicide. The first thing that should come to mind after a suicide attempt is to send them to some kind of counseling or therapy sessions.
It is the schools responsibility to be able to provide good enough teachers, who can prepare these students. In order to have a good education, there must be qualified teachers there to teach and prepare students effectively. Bauerlein questions schools curriculums and the way they are presenting “complex texts” (Bauerlein) to the students; “The more high school teachers place complex texts on the syllabus and concoct slow, deliberate reading exercises for students to complete, the more they will inculcate the habit” (Bauerlein). Students learn what their teachers tell them they have to learn, without knowing the effects the teachings will have on them whether good or bad. That is why schools providing qualified teachers are so important
This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing. There may be a lot of different things going on when it comes to discipline that a parent of a student with special needs does not understand and this chapter could given them a good insight to the reasons behind the actions. Also it would give parents the resources they need to maybe challenge what the school is doing if the school does end up over stepping their role in disciplining a student
Eveline Response/Analysis James Joyce manages to not only depict characters as they seem, but also reveal their inner world that is hidden from surrounding people and characters. His story “Eveline” is characterized by a great deal of psychological tension and can be approached from a psychological point of view. Viewing the story in this way helps the reader to better understand the story when they look at the conflict of Eveline’s life with her father, the relationship with Frank, and honoring a promise with her mother. In fact the story of Eveline is the story of a young woman who seems to be depressed and she is torn between her family and herself. From the very beginning of the story, she is clearly unhappy and suffers plenty.
