King believed in unity amongst all races. “With this faith we will be able to work together… to climb up for freedom together” (Doc 2), this statement shows that King felt success is only achieved through teamwork. He wanted an integrated school system that would provide equal education for both black and white children (Doc 4). Kings views on unity are evident through his association with fellow black activist Malcolm X (Doc 1). I would need an additional document from a white family to see how they felt about unifying with the blacks.
REFLECTION This is such a famous story that it earned reputation for Stockton and the title “"The Lady, or the Tiger?" has come into the English language as an expression, meaning an unsolvable problem. Yet, not many people have heard about the sequel of this story, which named “The Discourager of Hesitancy”. The setting of this second story is based on what left on the first story, and it was told by a person who did not attend in the incident till the end. He was curious about the destiny of the man and decided to find out the answer.
Many people during this time period supported his strategies and saw what he was saying as very influential. He believed in the evolution of black society and the only way to gain equality would be by earning need of work Washington felt that blacks could not be a in a position to improve their standing until their communities reached a level of development that made equality undeniable. He told blacks to concentrate on education and financial progress as well as keeping close community ties. This way, in time, the black community would be full of doctors, lawyers, architects, teachers, businessmen and other professionals. The black community would evolve out of its poverty into something that could not be denied as equals.
Despite the unhealthy, some addicts will careless and continue to do what they want; comparably, some people still go to McDonald’s. That is why, “forbidding young people things they like or think they might enjoy only makes them want those thing all the more” (884). Vidal’s statement is exact to all ages. Besides, “every man, however, has the power (and should have the legal right) to kill himself if he chooses” (884). Vidal mocks the power of choice; it can execute a person in a simple and ordinary way.
The black community has suffered far too long and they should hold themselves on a higher pedestal, but not so high that they in turn start to act in the way the whites treated them not too long ago. Baldwin is invited by Elijah Muhammad to dinner at his house a member of the Islamic group states “The white man sure is a devil” (Baldwin, 65). The word devil is such a mean, evil spirited word. The lowest thing any man would want to be heard called and compared to. Baldwin doesn’t agree the white man is the devil, but “according to Elijah, that [he] failed to realize that the white man was a devil was that [he] had been too long exposed to white teaching and had never received true instruction” (Baldwin, 66).
2. Look Past What Whites Are Doing to You and See What You Are Doing to Yourselves: Stop blaming whites for what has happened ages ago and take responsibility for what you have done to yourselves and your communities. 3. Every Black Man Should Put Family First: Children are the future. If black men are not leading by example then how can we expect the children to do any better?
During the time of the Civil Rights Movement African Anericans all over the United States were fighting for the equality they believed they deserved. However, there is one man who fought for complete separation of blacks from whites. Malcolm X, a member of the Nation of Islam; more commonly known as the Black Muslims, fought for black nationalism. The black muslims believed that African Americans should separate themselves from whites and form their own self-governing communities. Malcolm X's value to the Civil Rights Movement was positive because he influenced African Americans to take pride in their own culture and to believe in their oability to make their own way in the world.
“I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls.” –Martin Luther King, Jr. The Civil Rights Movement has been a long, non-violent struggle to bring civil right and equality laws to the United States and all citizens. Especially in the South, the fight was to end discrimination towards African Americans and to end segregation from 1945 to 1970. The same goals, tactics, and focus the civil rights movement had on ending the discrimination of ethnic groups was also applied to other struggles such as women’s liberation, gay liberation, and also disabled rights movement. Because of the Civil Rights Movement’s goals and tactics it left a lasting impact on the United States.
After reading the article “Black Man and Public Space”, I feel very sorry for black man like Brent Staples because how people treat and judg them so unfairly, and we get to do something to change their attitude. We are all human being and living in the same society, so we all have the same rights, duty and responsibility anyway. Because of that, it’s so weird if we think we are more valuable than others. The stable and strong society needs every single individual works together to build and develop it, and our color isn’t a matter. The matters are how we connect people, how we make people dedicate them to community, and how we make people feel they are in charge for this community.
You as a person need to know that are many options available for you the change the problem if you experience racial issues or inequality. One of things you can do is an effective organization movement. Gather you race around and whoever is experiencing racism and demonstrate in the streets. We know that this county has the freedom of speech; therefore say whatever you want to say and that can help decrease these racial issues. Another thing that you can do is to be on media, making sure the news agency is there to record you demonstrations and what you have to say about the whole racial issue.
