Jane Mukala Professor Hart ENG 101 March 18, 2015 Does The Internet Make You Dumber? Nicholas Carr argues that the internet has bad effects on the brain. He says that the internet makes it harder to remember anything, and that it is harder to move memories into long term memories. Carr thinks that by skimming information, it will diminish the ability to read long texts; I disagree with him because the internet makes actually makes us smarter and think accurate because we are aware of every little information around us. Carr thinks that excessive use of the internet might cause permanent changes to the way our brains work and we don’t have to remember as much, because we have RAM (Random Access Memory).
Even in regular hard drives can do 80 MBPS. Even in regular hard drives can do 80MBPS, so in theory you could see a bottleneck here, but in practice you probably will be fine. Some disadvantages are a lot of them are external and will use lots of power and because of this it can overload the Power Supply and potentially ruin the Power Supply or the PC may not even start until things are
Describe how raid 1 works and its advantages/disadvantages? Page 110 Raid 1 advantage is if one disk fail , the data can be recover from the second disk. The disadvantage is by using this mirror, it only provides half as much storage space. 7. Which file system is most commonly used with Windows 7.
Also we know that more processes running on your computer will in general mean less CPU’s horsepower available for other tasks. This means you should first have a look at the running services on your computer and determine if they are really necessary. For example is it really necessary that your TomTomHOMEService used for ejecting TOMTOM devices runs automatically or can you may be set it’s start up type to manual in the Windows 7 in Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services list? A less obvious factor which can affect your computer’s performance is the fragmentation on the hard disk drive, making it more difficult for the system to build up the data it needs to run you applications in memory if the composite data are scattered all over the hard disk drive. In the System Section under the Control Panel in Windows 7 is a section called “Check the Windows Experience Index” which is a nice step up from the situation
But, this does very little in protecting you against some other guys writing a spreadsheet which is more user friendly, calculates faster, and provides more functions, even though you were the inventor of the spreadsheet. There are only so many general purpose software programs. The rest of computer software is specialized, developed for a particular purpose, to solve a specific problem. These specific software solutions may rely on the general purpose solutions, but refine them. By refining them they become specific applications targeting a specific set of users with a specific set of problems.
However, switches filter data according to the MAC address. This can reduce congestion and decrease the collision domain (Ciccarelli, et al 2013). Switches support management capabilities and some provide built-in web servers for management over the Internet (Ciccarelli, et al 2013). Switches allow the network to be grouped into segments and can limit the amount of broadcast traffic that is propagated between segments (Ciccarelli, et al 2013). Because of their sophistication, switches can be more expensive, difficult to configure, and can increase the complexity of a network (Ciccarelli, et al 2013).
They can choose to engage in deep thinking activities. Too much of anything is not good for any one, and this also applies to internet usage. Scholars say that the price of technology is alienation and that this indicates that the more distracted an individual becomes, the less able they are to experience human emotions such as empathy and compassion. It is still too early to tell what the results of the future effects of the internet, but as Carr states, “An intellectual technology exerts its influence by shifting the emphasis of our thought. As the brain adapts to the new medium, the most profound changes will take place over several generations’
Lab 3 Exercise 3.1.1: If each vendor had its own standard and protocol, it would make communicating with people all over the world very difficult. You would only be able to communicate with people on the same network as you. It would make business very difficult and nearly impossible to some degree, and it would make communicating in your personal life very difficult as well. Exercise 3.1.2: another example of a model that makes information easier to perceive would be a windows graphical interface perhaps. It takes a computer spitting out lines and lines of codes into a usable interface for the input/output of data.
Windows has a Virtual memory manager (VMM) and avoids allocating all the memory until it is absolutely necessary. Windows does prefetching, which is moving pages from the disk to the main memory before it is even needed. Pages that are not needed in the memory are stored into a system called Page file until further need. With the Linux operating system, the files are organized already into the hard drive. This will give speed to Linux and provide for faster
They would have problems focusing and were easily distracted. Many multitaskers even thought they were the, “efficient exception.” In his study it was brought to the surface that multitasking is everywhere, whether it’s watching television and texted friends or sitting in on a lecture and having a social network on the computer. Multitasking is when people try to perform two or more related tasks either at the same time or alternating between them, errors go way up, and it takes far longer to get the jobs done than if they were done separately. Multitasking, in many ways, challenges the quality of our everyday work. This is something that I, personally, have witnessed growing up in a family with eight other siblings and two sets of parents.
