Even though the troops who die volunteer and fight with pride, the United States should end the war on terror because it is causing damage to the economy and too many troops’ lives have been lost. Our death toll since the war started in Iraq and Afghanistan has damage us as Americans, because our death toll
In another case, Paul is seen trying to save the life of an enemy that he has stabbed, he fails but his efforts shouldn’t be forgotten. His friends refer to him as a hero, and he neglects this title and all the medals. Paul doesn’t like war and what it represents, to him, war is the real evil. The government forcing people into war, without giving them a choice is evil War can easily turn any person into a hero. Corporal Himmelstoss was an average polite postman before being drafted into World War I, not soon after he became a bully.
I do not think that showing those pictures will change what the article in the paper is about at all. The only reason these pictures were put in a newspaper is for the entertainment value to sell more copies of them if people see that someone is about to die which personally I think is morally wrong. I think the answer to the other part of the question is that the effect on the reader would that they would be disturbed and shocked at what they see in the picture. Then I think the reader would be very outraged that these
It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, not dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. The died so as not to die of embarrassment”(483). This quote describes what the men were feeling they wanted to go home and leave a lot of them were cowards deep down but they didn’t was to disappoint and be cowards because they came to the war and most were trying to do it the honorable way even if it led to death it was better than leaving like a
Appy says of a firefighter who lost his son “He was furious because he saw antiwar activists as privileged and disrespectful snobs who 'insult everything we believe in” without having to share his family’s military and economic sacrifices. In virtually the same breath, however, he said about the war his time, “The sooner we get the hell out of there [Vietnam] the better.”(142) What he meant was he did not think the protestors had the right to speak against the war because they and their families where not the ones being affected whether it be economically or personally such as having to loose a loved one. The working class also felt as if the wealthy politicians were forcing them go to war, but they were not the ones actually fighting in the war. This led to much distain towards the upperclass and had many of them questioning if the war was really worth it. With the working class not being able to side directly with the “hawks” or “doves” it left them without a voice.
It is impossible to go through life without trust..." This quote doesn't apply to All Quiet on the Western Front because the main character Paul Baumer and his friends trusted their teacher Kantorek and went to fight in the World War. They all eventually died in this war and the war also shortened their lives greatly. They trusted Kantorek thinking the war would be amazing and they would be doing a great service for their country. However the complete opposite happened. They hated the war and lost their lives.
In the poem, a veteran is expressing his opposition towards the war, and criticizing the way the government tries to compensate the war veterans by honoring them with pointless memorabilia that will never make them feel proud of their participation in the war. Instead of creating highways and postage stamps in their name, he only wants to educate the people of a “simple recognition/ of the limits of our nation to inflict our will on others./ What I wanted was an understanding that the world is neither black-and-white/ nor ours”(lines 8-13). He expresses his outrage toward the Western mentality that caused an absurd war that only brought negative repercussions. The world cannot be the way a group of leaders decides it to be because the beauty of this world is that it is diverse and full of different aspects. He accentuates the need for the people to understand that no one is superior to another, and the differences among humans should be accepted and welcomed.
According to few Hellenes, people who had the evil or had injured the empire by private actions have no nobler cause in terms of their deed to fight for the country. They were dishonored because of their bad fame. Thucydides persuaded by point out that all the citizens knew the advantages of a brave defense. On the battlefield, they became glorified because of their fearless spirit and ran away from the word of dishonor. The speaker also interpreted the word of dishonor by comparing the contribution which the dead made and the evil they did.
Ted Lavender was shot in his head on his way back from peeing. Lieutenant cross blamed himself because he was fantasizing about the girl instead of worrying about the safety of his men. I think this incident brought Jimmy the realization that”he loved Martha more then he loved his men” and realized she did not love him. Jimmy burnt her pictures and letters and decided to change the way he was running things. It took the death of one of the Lieutenants men for him to re-examine the importance of his love for Martha and realize he wasn’t focusing on what should have been his first priority the war and safety of his
John Q. used some violence on his hostages in the attempt to help his son get the heart transplant. (Letter to Birmingham; page 214, paragraph 9) Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. Martin Luther King Jr. would also see that it was unjust for the hospital to release Michael knowing that he would die without proper care. I truly believe that in this movie John Q’s actions were those of one whom was taught to protect their family no matter what. Morally, John’s actions are justifiable.
