Unit I Case: Sackett v. EPA (2012). Anonymous Anonymous Facts: Michael and Chantell Sackett & Environmental Protection Act are the parties within the lawsuit disputing if the Sacketts are responsible for violating the Environmental Protection Act (Sackett v. EPA 2012). The disagreement was over the Sacketts challenging the issuance of a citation from the EPA because the Sacketts were violating the Clean Water Act by placing field material on the property. The Clean water act forbids the dumping of any contaminants by anybody without the proper certification permitting the discarded materials to be dumped in a body of water (Sackett v. EPA 2012). The Sacketts did not believe that their property violated the Clean Water act, requesting a hearing with the EPA, which was denied by the United States District Court for the District of Idaho (Sackett v. EPA 2012).
Health and social care Health and safety – HSC 37- unit 4222-306 Outcome 1 Understandings own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to health and safety. 1. Some legislations that relate to health and safety include: Manual handling regulations 1992- In summary, the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, (as amended 2002) require employers to- Avoid the need for hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable; Assess the risk of injury from any hazardous manual handling that cannot be avoided; and Reduce the risk of injury from hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable. Control of substances Hazardous to Health 2002 (COSHH): COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health. You can prevent or reduce workers exposure to hazardous substances by: finding out what the health hazards are; deciding how to prevent harm to health (risk assessment); providing control measures to reduce harm to health; making sure they are used ; keeping all control measures in good working order; providing information, instruction and training for employees and others; providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases; planning for emergencies.
Finally we discuss the two ways, unsafe employee actions and unsafe working conditions upon which the Safety programs are actually based upon. Issues Addressed • The level of commitment to occupational safety. How much was Ms. Lincoln committed to it? • Trade-off between the need to keep expenses low and the need to provide safe working conditions. Would Ms. Lincoln had compromised on not being able to keep expenses low had she acted on Wenda’s project earlier?
1). Four main regulatory compliance approaches arise when talking about confined spaces: the risk-based approach, the control-and-command approach, the oxygen deficiency approach, and countries that regulate it loosely or not at all (Enhesa, 2011). This particular scenario involves the risk-based approach and also the control-and-command approach, basically putting the responsibility on the employer and not the employee (Medical News Today, 2011). NewCorp should apologize to Paul and place him in a environmentally safe area as well as taking the control-and-command regulatory approach. This approach forces NewCorp to focus on the safety of the
i know it’s important to deal with the fire but I think the number one priority is the safety of your men. I am pretty sure there was some safety issues with the plant and Magnablend over looked them which caused this fire. There needs to be safety risk assessments for every operation in huge scale chemical plant like this, so this accident doesn’t happen again. References Lefebvre, Ben, and Ana Campoy. "U.S. News: Fire Engulfs Texas Chemical Plant."
Using the decision-making steps, first the problem has to be framed. In doing so, the problem is first identified because if the problem the people of Kava are facing is unknown, we cannot find a solution to the problem. One problem Kava is facing is terrorist attacks. Kava faces both internal and external terrorist attacks. Also Kava is faced with natural disasters and HIV/AIDS epidemic The Army defines the criteria, goals, and objectives for the task at hand in an attempt to revive the economy of Kava.
Chapter 2 gave insight into the term psychological contract by looking into its history and origin. Chapter 3 described the contents of the psychological contract, with specific focus on the expectations and obligations of the fire brigade as well as the violations of the contract and the implications thereof for the fire brigade. Chapter 4 discussed the research method and the statistical analysis as well as the findings of the research. This paper thus suggested that psychological contract measurement and its theoretical implications need to be recognized in the public sector of our country. The interface with examples and literature was given against this background.
Resolution COMMITTEE: World Health Organization (WHO) QUESTIONS OF: Radioactive Waste SUBMITTED BY: THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, Acknowledging the fact and danger radioactive might cause to our environment and public health. The question of the safe final deposition of all radioactive waste generated worldwide is still problematic, Bearing in mind High level radioactive waste can be hazardous and deadly, others could cause biological effects in human such as cancer, Deeply concerned that the Chernobyl nuclear disaster would reoccur, Recognizing that the United Nations has a vital responsibility for major nuclear and radiation emergencies, 1. Aware of the problem of radioactive waste and safety of the population as Radiation exposure can cause cancer, birth defects and other abnormalities, Understanding that the Chernobyl disaster cause fewer than 50 direct deaths, 4,000 additional cancer and 600,000 highly exposed people, 2. Requests funds to improve nuclear power facilities a. constructing new nuclear power station; b. refurbishing power stations that are old and not as safe; c. protections 3. Urges safe disposal of radioactive waste by constructing secure containers to guarantee that high radioactive waste won’t leak back into the environment, contaminating water supplies and the food chain.
In his discussion of firm strategy, Oliver Williamson notes that in Cyert and March ‘the firm resembles a fire department more than a strategic actor’ (1999, p. 14). The firm is focused on finding solutions to immediate problems, not on longer-term strategic options. Although The Behavioral Theory ‘can not articulate a serious policy proposal for changing the behavior pattern’ (Cyert and March, 1963. p. 297), it nevertheless provides a greater understanding of the limitations to strategic action. The understanding of how routines and path dependency limit and enable the firm to solve problems was an important step
Along with managing a large amount of waste in the United States they also help fund state programs and currently have $97.3 million invested in grant funds for hazardous waste programs [7]. There are some gray areas that RCRA needs to address for the safety of humans and the environment that are not currently or do not have strong regulations. Some of the challenges they face are in areas including waste that is highly toxic, waste from increasingly efficient air and water pollution control devices, population growth and increase demand of natural resources and long-term stewardship facilities that closed with waste in place [7]. 3.2.1 Non-Hazardous Waste Subtitle D of RCRA deals with non-hazardous waste. This section bans open dumping of waste.
