Nature Walk- In Thoreau's Shoes

As I step aversely onto the worn path, I ask myself several questions; What am I looking to get out of this experience? Will I really find the serenity Thoreau achieved? I look up to the sky, the weather is drizzly and the clouds are a solemn gray, but the excitement of nature’s beckon overwhelms my every sense. A child, unwilling to do what her parents asked of her, I grudgingly take the first steps of my journey along this path. My mind travels to the times other people must have traveled this route. Were their intentions similar to my own? I’m eager to begin my solitudal walk in a familiar fortress. The trees are my walls, my guards, my companions. They stand tall though all the seasons, inside and out of this splendid stronghold. In the summer and on sunny days, not even the sun is an intruder, bold green leaves shade the inhabitants and claim their position as the roof. These foot soldiers have turned away their green uniforms, in return, they take on uniforms of different shades of red, yellow, brown, and orange, to celebrate a festive season. The wind is like a commander, wiping his soldiers into the air, creating a playful dance around me. I want to be myself, a ballerina, and Pirouette through these dancing leaves. They become, Soldiers, a dance partner, a Prince, swirling around me; meanwhile I decide wether I should accept this invite and let go of all rational thought and fear, and let my mind soar! Now, with each step I feel as though I float more and more with the leaves, on the back of the wind. My mind wanders, while the world around me disappears, bringing to light, a brand new world. A world where imagination takes flight. I can smell the leaves around me, a earthy and calming smell of Fall. This familiar scent enhances with each gust of breath from the Commander.
