During the end of the first day of sophomore year I remember walking into the room "eight-zero-one" at my high school and thinking "why would the counselors give me a chorus class?" I didn't think of myself as a singer. I mean, playing piano for twelve year has been a great experience and I have always strived to achieve excellence in all classes, activities and groups to which I belong; but singing? I can only remember singing in the shower and occasionally to my dogs. As I took a seat, the chorus direction, Ms. Morrow, introduced herself and began to teach us how to read music.
Amy Beach Amy Beach was born on September 5, 1867 in Henniker, New Hampshire. She was a child prodigy, and was able to sing forty tunes accurately by age one. She had also taught herself to read when she was four. By the time she was five she was composing simple waltzes. A year after her mother started giving her formal piano lessons.
Born November 17th, 1938, in Orilla, Ontario, Lightfoot’s talent was recognized by his mother and she encouraged him and groomed him to be a successful performer at a young age. Lightfoot was in a choir when he was young and claims to have gained some valuable knowledge about performing from his choirmaster Ray Williams. His first major performance was at Massey Hall in Toronto when he was twelve after winning a competition. When he was a teenager he taught himself folk-guitar and drums, and learned to play the piano. He performed a lot in his high school years.
She also lines the book with interesting topics such as disclosure, how teachers treated them, and social life as a kid, as well as an adult. For most of Gina and her interviewee’s school careers, they were one of, if not the only deaf or hard of hearing students in their school. Although Gina was not born hard of hearing, it was not until kindergarten that she realized that she was “different,” from the rest of the children in her class. The class was playing a game where they close their eyes and when they hear the piano start to play the get up and walk in a circle. They closed their eyes but when the piano started playing she did not get up.
Roberta Flack Roberta Flack was born February 10, 1940, in the small town of Black Mountain, NC, but she grew up in Arlington, VA. She was the daughter of Loran and Irene Flack, who were both skilled musicians. Her father taught himself to play the piano and her mother had formal piano lessons, which had Roberta around music all the time. She started taking formal piano lessons at the age of nine. At the age of 13 she had won second place in a state-wide piano competition between the black students. By the age of 15 she had already graduated from high school and earned a piano scholarship to Howard University.
Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in Tryon, North Carolina on February 21, 1933. Her talent began at the age of three. She was able to play any song that she heard by ear on the piano. Her talents soon helped her establish a scholarship to study at Julliard University in New York City. When her funds ran low to continue school, she had no choice but to leave the university and move to Philadelphia where she could save money to be able to go to a more affordable music program.
In a similar manner “Two Kinds” by Amy tan depicts resistant against authority. The story like Bambara is also told from a first person narrator in the protagonist Jing-mei. She moves to America with her family when she is little. Her mother’s goal for her is to be highly talented piano player. In the beginning Jing-mei seems to accept it and become a prodigy when she says “…look forward to my future fame…in the beginning, I was just as excited as my mother” (405-406).
When I reached high school I found interest in the piano again. I taught myself how to play the music I loved and worked very hard to become a good piano player. While I enjoy playing
When I first started school, I attended F.L.I.C.S. Elementary School. ( Foreign Language Immerson Cultural Studies). There were four total languages: French, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. What made this school stand out from other schools was that not only do you have the regular elementary school naptimes and classes, but your parents get to assign you a particular language to be in.
The second thing that I think I’m grateful strength is music , because I like to listen and play the music by piano but I’m not that good in piano. When I was about 7 or 8 years old on that time my mother want me to choose one instrument to learn there were piano and violin , on that day I choose violin but I played about 3 years and then I start to like piano but I don’t want to let the teacher to teach me so I use youtube to learn it by my self first after that my dad bought me a electronic piano to play at home so I really like piano then it become my second grateful strength. The thirth thing are the grateful weakness , I think my grateful weakness is math because I don’t like to calculate the amount that over thousand so I hate math that why it is also my grateful weakness but
