Crazy Horse’s forces didn’t have advanced arms, but he had better wisdom and tactics of war. He defeated extremely arrogant Custer. While at the end of the poem, Custer said that he would be reborn whenever dictators need him or whenever movie-goers want to watch him. This is an ironic and humor ending. Through this ending, Alexie indicates his view on Custer: he was standing on the side of dictators; he was a bad guy.
After reading The Killer Angels I am now more open to history as a subject and the literature that comes along with it. To read about how unexpected the battle actually was and how all of the commanding officers acted and felt amazed me. Michael Shaara put together the facts in such a way that made the novel not only readable but captivating to the reader, making me not want to put the book down. There were many mistakes on the confederate side which is what, I believe cause the union victory but, many men fought and died for what they believed in and that courage make them all victors in their own way. Although the civil war was not won that day, it was one of the deciding factors that eventually lead to the union victory and the freeing of the slaves, which would have most likely not have been accomplished if not for the men on that battlefield.
This weakness is one that will always be evident in the future of all warfare until the end of time. Due to the unconventional nature of the war on terror, lack of reliable intelligence is even more detrimental to our victory than ever before. However, technology advances have increased the efficiency and speed with which our forces can obtain intelligence information, though the sharing of this information between different entities is a problem that still persists. Since September 11th, the U.S. has adopted several new policies which improve the process of sharing intelligence between agencies, and the prospect of this issue becoming less prevalent is becoming a
When it came time for war, Great Britain was so influenced by the book that they had a hard time supporting the Confederacy, even though they are economically tied to them. This was a big factor in war because both sides needed more support than ever and if the book could influence a country so much to change whoʼs side their on, it could be a huge game changer. ! With all the copies of the book sold to the North and the South, “Uncle Tomʼs Cabin” was defiantly a big component in causing the Civil War. The differences of views in the North and the South were so contrasting that tension was inevitable.

Similarly, the financial burden of the War called political judgment into question; doubts were rife about the tactics, and ever decision was scrutinized on the nightly news, with most Americans feeling that “we simply did not belong there,†(Davidson, 1991, inclusive). More than anything, the Vietnam War emphasized what was wrong on the home front, and that a superpower was not always a superpower '' tremendous might would not always prevail.
America used to have a good reputation in these nations but, as stated by Dr. James Zogby, founder of the Arab American Institute on July 12th of this year, “the lingering wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have changed that perception”. In fact, from a study of over 4,000 citizens from each Arab nation, conducted by the AAI, approval of President Obama’s policies were on average 10 percent or less. As anti-American sentiments grow stronger, there is not only less chances for diplomatic relations with these countries in the future but there is also an increased risk of terrorism attacks against the United States. Additionally, our interventions have not even resulted in viable democracies in either of these nations yet, which strongly indicates that democratic interventions by the United States in other nations don’t work. In the Arab nations studied by the AAI, “U.S.
Emily Rayner CHC2D1-01 Mr. Pellerin 29th September 2011 Not One Was To Blame The beginning of World War I (WWI) and who can be blamed for starting this war is complicated and has created great debates throughout history. The causes of WWI will be explored in detail: Imperialism, Militarism, Nationalism, The Alliance System, and the assassination of Austria-Hungarian Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand. Imperialism’s contribution will be explored by looking at the economic, political and military affects. Militarism was a major contributor because nations gained strength by building up their armies and equipped them with ammunition. Nationalism became a danger when carried to the extreme leaving certain nations believing they should be the greater power over
Much literature has been written about the events that occurred, the battles that were fought and the innovation and weapons that were used, but it is the people that were most important and pivotal in the war. The people far out weighed the battles, the weapons or machinery and it was the people and there stories that have and will remain victorious throughout modern American memory. Some may say that WWII was not the good war because America entered the war last and did not witness the majority of destruction, ethnic cleansing and killing caused by the Nazi regime. Some say believe that it’s because the war was fought elsewhere so damages and casualties weren’t seen on home land unlike in Europe. Whilst some say that WWII was not the good war because America simply took the easy route towards the end of the war with the introduction of nuclear weapons on
Twenty years later though, during the Vietnam War, the awareness by the US citizens was a lot higher, probably also related to the now widely spread television. Out of the Vietnam War, a number of anti-war movements emerged, and the social pressure on the US government was one of the bigger reasons why they withdrew from the Vietnam War. Even though South Vietnam eventually did fall to the communist North Vietnam, a number of neighboring countries did not turn communist, as McNamara’s domino theory suggested, and the theory that most of the US foreign policy regarding war was based on was
Kortni Couch 9/24/12 5 Page Essay The Civil War was a difficult time for those who lived in the United States during the years of the late 1800s. The north and south couldn’t come to a mutual agreement so they resorted to war. Kwame Appaiah wrote a very inspirational book on cosmopolitanism and how everyone of different cultures and ethics should respect one another. When I think about it, the civil war pops into my head and it makes me think about how the civil war relates to cosmopolitanism. Appiah’s prime thrust of his argument is that many people of the cosmopolitan temperament are not necessarily from the elite spectrum of their societies or for that matter, of the world.
