Sigourney Tessa Professor Welty English 111 February 6 ,2013 The Lowest Man According to Mark Twain in his experimental beliefs, man is the lowest animal. The works of Mark Twain, he satirizes human nature by describing some erxperiments he supposedly conducted at the Zoological Gardens. He is not convinced of Darwinian's Theory of the Lower Animal's, and he turns it upside down with his own words. Mark Twain carried out his experiments to show why he believes that man is not The Lowest Man. He was strong willed in his beliefs and wanted to prove his own theory. I really enjoyed this article, but I do not think all of what he is saying is true. I. Twain's thoughts on the Darwinian Theory A "The results are humiliating." (Twain) B. " The theory of the "Lower Animals", should be vacated to a new and truer theory". (Twain) C. "The new theory needs to be called The Descent of Man from Higher animals". (Twain) He is not happy with the theory and wants to change it by what he believes is right. I did not like this, he should not be humiliated by his own kind. II.Many experiments were supposedly conducted to prove this new theory. A. " Did not guess or speculate". (Twain) B. "Verified and established each step of the tests". (Twain) C. " The experiments took place at the London Zoological Gardens, and covered months of hard work". (Twain) A lot of hard work was put into these experiments to show the difference between The Lower Man and The Higher Man. I did like this, he did try experiments to prove his beliefs. III.The human race. A. " The human species has distinct variations- color, skin, mental state, etc". (Twain) B. " The human race is caracterized by itself". (Twain) C. " Other families like the birds, the fishes, and reptiles are more or less distinct". (Twain) D. "They are links in the chain which stretch down from
