The lens breaking symbolizes destruction of the society. Since a lens can break very easily, so can their society. Lastly, towards the end of the book, Piggy was holding the conch and was saying that he had the right to speak. Roger was tired of Piggy whining so he put all of his weight on the big boulder and watched it roll down the hill and hit Piggy. “The rock bounded twice and was lost in the forest.
The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy, says nothing, with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock, turning over as he went. Many mistakes were made when Ralph, Piggy, Jack, and the rest of the boys were stranded on the island, Piggy’s death is one of those mistakes. The boys allowed many things to go wrong while they were stranded on that island. For example, they didn’t have a well thought out system for the leadership roles on the island.
Roger saw Piggy holding the conch in his hands, and aimed a giant bolder at him. It stuck him with force sending him off the cliff to his death, and causing the conch to break in his hands. Now no power was in the right hand, and all the power was in the wrong
Piggy was killed during a fight between the two gangs, one of the members known as roger pushed the rock on top of Piggy. “The rock stuck Piggy a glancing bow from chin knee...traveled through the air sideways from the rock... Fell forty feet and landed on his back. His head opened and came and turned red”. The death of a fellow companion should have at least brought some civilization to the island but since the boys degenerated to savages this wasn’t the case. The boys’ savage show that they are savages by how the pigs are killed.
This is shown when the boys use the glasses to start a fire for themselves, which is a crucial element to survival. “Ralph moved the lenses back and forth, this way and that, till a glossy white image of the declining sun lay on a piece of rotten wood.” (41) This describes when they used Piggy’s glasses to make the fire on the mountain. The glasses are also used to represent order and when the first lenses shatters, it signifies the start of corruption in their society. The pig head that was impaled on the stake symbolizes the evil within the boys and was a sacrifice to please the beast. When Simon hallucinates and hears the pig head talking to him, it foreshadows his death by explaining who the beast really is.
The war paint is also a symbol it symbolized the rejection of society. In a way when they put on the mask of the war paint they took of the mask of society and revealed there true inner selves which was savage. The pig's head symbolizes both the savagery that the boys now exhibit outwardly, and the "Lord of the Flies" because the rotting head is swarming with flies, as it sits perched on a stick. The symbol which were in the novel have been used the same way in both the film the symbols describe the whole film if the director have not used the symbol properly then the film had made no sense and it have been totally different from the novel if they make the 3rd film for lord of flies the director will correct all the mistake done by the two director and make a better film with better technical elements which will entertain the viewer
When piggy dies they don’t take inconsideration his death, because that is when civilization on the island is lost and they become even more savage and thoughtless. All in all the symbols that have changed people throughout time, has also changed the boys and the island as well, but in an uncivilized and savage way. That paradise looking island was once peaceful, but the chaos that the boys have bestowed upon it has changed the island forever and its
As he is running, he runs off a cliff, only realizing too late. He grabs on to the long rope of a hot air balloon, as it happens to be floating by. The Angel of the Odd reappears to him and makes him admit that the bizarre really can happen. The narrator agrees, but is unable to physically perform the pledge that the Angel of the Odd demands because of his fractured arm. The Angel then cuts the rope and the man falls down onto his newly rebuilt house through the chimney and into the dining
Simon’s death in the novel Lord of the Flies is the most tragic death of the story. For one thing, if the boys weren’t so riled up over the pig kill, screaming “kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood,” when Simon came out of the forest with news of the pilot, they would have learned that there was no beast on the mountain. This means that the fear of the beast on the mountain could’ve been eliminated, which was keeping them from making the signal fire on the highest part of the island.
Traditions, ideals, and culture are the essential buildings blocks of civilization and society, but they soon collapse as people choose to follow their desire over the old traditions. Ralph unites the boys under the calling of the conch, yet the boys destroys the conch that holds their group together: “The conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist” (Golding 181). The conch represents the last shred of civil order that the boys hold on to, while the tribe, representing savagery, destroys the conch thereby removing the last remaining remnant of civilization. Golding illustrates the literal destructions of old traditions at the hand of the savages. He shows how desires ( in this case of being free from society’s grip) can lead young boys to turn on the ideals and traditions, society installs in them from a young age.
