Hurston makes it easier to relate to the characters through dialog and actions. Furthermore, Hurston keeps the dialect understandable, like when Tea Cake starts off, “‘Hello, Mis’ Janie, Ah hope Ah woke you up.’ ‘Yo sho did, Tea Cake. Come in and rest yo’ hat.
Does love have a barrier? These questions arise personally after reading the novel ‘The Awakening’. To quote E. Jones, “Moral attitude towards others is substituted for an attitude of love”(5). The quote describes more of Edna who is a mother and a wife to one of the wealthiest Creole men in New Orleans, and during her time period having a family is part of societal expectations. Edna’s character abandons her role as a mother and wife; she breaks moral values and standards because of the intimate love affair she shares with Robert, therefore leading to the struggles she faces in the novel where she failed.

We begin with Jack and Algernon are having a chat about ‘Bunburying’ where both show conflicting views on the subject. It is my opinion the writer used this element well, as it grabbed my attention and made it a fun and interesting reading. It also built that small mystery regarding if she was speaking the truth or not, as midpoint thru the reading it made me question her gender preference which I found humorous. In Brady, J. (1971) “I Want a Wife,” she used the final statement “My God, who wouldn’t want a wife?” in order to draw a conclusion to the reader that she was making a statement based on experiences. The way I Plan on using the literary elements in my essay would be by using Tone and Language expression that will help the reader paint a mental picture of a current situation within my essay.

This an example of an allusion because the author refers to a subject matter, in this case a woman’s body, by way of a passing reference. Also the analogy device is used in the poem in line two of the first stanza when the author writes “A temple of beautiful flesh, blessed from its creation by heaven’s Divine thought.” This is an undeniable analogy for obvious reasons. An analogy is a literary device that helps to establish a relationship based on similarities between two concepts or ideas and in the poem the author makes it so that nice skin and heavens creation have a direct relationship. Lastly, denotation refers to expressing a meaning or the significance of a part of a story in a straightforward, clear-cut manner. There is no roundabout, covert manner employed and denotation is the opposite of connotation and although there are
What the bride tells readers about is the fact that she cannot fully accept her newlywed husband. The reason for her doubts is because her recent husband, D’Elormie, unfortunately passed on. Though her new husband may be happy as mentioned several times within the poem, the bride does not feel all too completely happy herself. As featured in the poem, the readers find out what the bride’s true feelings and thoughts are of the wedding despite the greatest of times. Getting back to the fact that the story is told in a bride’s point of view, it just shows many readers that Edgar Allan Poe does not just tell stories in a male’s point of view.
