Lifestyle Diseases Name: Course: Instructor: Date of Submission: Research question: Reasons for the increase in lifestyle diseases in today’s world. Introduction Lifestyle diseases are diseases mainly caused by the way a person leads his/her life on a day to day basis. For instance, some people may choose to eat junk foods from restaurants, cook traditional food at home, walk to work, use public means every time, smoke or take too much alcohol, etc. All these and much more are lifestyles adopted by people. They are generally caused by an incongruous relationship of individuals with their surroundings. The main reason as to why people tend to follow various lifestyles is because of social stratification in the society. However, there are many emerging diseases brought about by the various forms of lifestyle we adopt. Some of these ailments include; high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, gout, cancer, heart disease, depression, stroke, etc. The big question is, why has lifestyle diseases risen in the world today yet people are becoming civilized day in day out. This paper analyses the major factors which have contributed to an increase in lifestyle diseases. Smoking Smoking is a vice which leads to lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Chain smokers are at a high risk of suffering from lifestyle diseases because they are exposed to a higher risk. Smoking increases the blood pressure. Smokers have low levels of cholesterol required in blood and therefore, they are at a high risk of blood clot. (Jones, 1995) Also, children of smokers are at a high risk of suffering from breathing complications because of the passive effect of the cigar smoke. Numerous studies have also revealed that smoking is a chief environmental aspect linked to generalized forms of belligerent periodontitis.
