Trench Warfare World War One was a horrific event, the number of known dead sits at about eight million people. The main method of combat during the first world war, also known as the Great World War, was trench warfare. Trenches were dug mainly to protect troops, but ended up being one of the major reasons so many men died. These men had to live through miserable times, daily life was filled with horror, and death. Death was a constant companion to those serving in the line, even when they weren't under attack, many would die of disease.
Controlled Assessment Task Part (A) The First World War is associated strongly with Trench Warfare. How useful and reliable are these sources in explaining what conditions in the trenches were like? The public’s imagination of the Great War has been closely associated with Trench Warfare. Within the beginning period of the war August-September 1914 both armies expected a rapid war of movement, however the advances upon firing technology resulted in the complex trench systems being developed. The traditional interpretation was that soldiers spent all of their time in horrific conditions which they constantly experienced and they feared the factor of being sent ‘Over the top’ and that trenches were full of rats, lice and disease.
When getting information from the soldiers they can tell you personally what it was like in the trenches, or the sounds they heard from all of the guns and bombs, and the smell of death and gunpowder. If he focused on the soldiers back at the base they would tell you different because they did not experienced what the frontline did, they can give you just an overview on what was happening. The soldiers on the frontline went through a lot, from being stuck in a hole for the whole length and not seeing any soldiers at all, or watching people they know die in front of them; they witnessed the many horrors of battle that many people were not aware about. The way he focused on the frontline soldiers really makes you understand what they soldiers went through and how they dealt with those issues, you were able to see what they feared, like dying from a bomb instead of a bullet. You also felt their feeling of nervousness, and the anxiety of the soldiers that were in the trenches.
The soldiers in the Vietnam War and for any War for that matter are constantly scared for their lives and just living day to day is a struggle they are forced to face fighting, death, and sickness on a daily basis. “The things they carried where largely determined by necessity” (473) some stuff every man had to carry for basic survival but some other things men carried were more of what they found important to them, all of the weight they carried is symbolic of the emotional weight they carried with them as well. The war can take a great toll on a man constantly moving and having to carry all of your belonging with you most of the things they were
World War 1 Through 1914-1918 Canadians fought in the trenches during World War 1. Weapons were really dangerous and killed many soldiers. Soldiers were worn down mentally and physically through out the war. The trenches they lived in were wet, cold and full of rats. Trench warfare was such a horrible and deadly thing many soldiers called it the worst time of their life.
Civil War started to breakout. Many people were on the street, living in etreme poverty because there hosue was bombed. This citizens have to live in fear about getting killed. Sometimes even they lose family members to the war. People are also breathing in toxins from, the guns, and bombs that cause so much damage.
Tracy Fang October 15, 2012 In the movie “ Quiet on the Western Front”, the lives of German soldiers were bitterly hard and terrible in World War One. There are several significant details that help the readers follow the action. First, most of the German soldiers were at an age around 17, they were very young and never experienced in a real war. Another important detail is these soldier were not given proper tools, they didn’t know how to protect themselves. They died quickly as they got shoot by bullets or breathed in poisonous gas.
Disease that caused stomach pains, diarrhea, vomiting, fever or even death. Along with disease soldiers had be concerned about getting trench foot. Trench foot is a medical condition caused by prolonged exposure of the feet to damp, unsanitary, and cold conditions. Soldiers had to stand for hours in water and mud without the luxury of being able to remove there damp socks or boots. Trench warfare lasted for about four years and towards the end of the war the trenches extended over 600 miles across the countryside.
World War I brought many new ideas and different concepts that would either benefit or cause major consequences throughout the war. This was the time of the incredibly dreadful “Trench warfare”. Roden simply placed a picture in our mind by saying “We have had another terrible week of it in the trenches.” These trenches were used as a protective barrier between their enemy and No-Mans Land. Not only did the trenches provide protection, it also brought many other deadly factors such as diseases, rodents, and unfit living conditions. Lice was a very common problem that would terrorize every soldier that would spend time in the trenches.
The after effects of this attack are still remembered by many! Family’s morn over the deaths of their family members every year on this day and it is totally unfair. In conclusion to the attack President Bush sent our military to Afghanistan to find and capture Bin Laden. In 2003 Bush then sent the military to Iraq and many people were upset. People were so upset because they were afraid that sending troops to Iraq would take the focus off of Afghanistan and the mission to find Bin Laden.
