Discuss how the Characteristics of Religion Interact to Create a Living, Dynamic Religion. The characteristics of religion interact with each other creating a living, dynamic religion. A living, dynamic religion is the ability to change, adapt and modernize a religion whilst keeping the central and core beliefs the same. The characteristics we focus on are the beliefs and believers, the rituals and ceremonies, the sacred texts and writings and the ethics. The belief and believers are what make up any religion.l They are what keep the structure of religion in order to continue its existence.
Thus "using her own journey as the road map, Lesser discusses why so many Americans are coming to a deeply personal form of religion - one that does not prescribe to a specific doctrine or definition of God." To find your own spirituality you need to wade through all sorts of different ideas and traditions to find what appeals to you, what you like and what makes you feel good. That leads to the second key idea, which is do what you want, how you want, when you want. American spirituality really is Home Depot spirituality - it's do it yourself religion. For example, one fellow has written a book about the spirituality of eating, saying that "eating connects us to the mystery and source of all living things."
Childbearing refers to the act or process of giving birth. All three have changed drastically over the last forty years. Since 1970, marriage rates have changed significantly. There has been a decrease in marriage from 48000 in 1972 to only 306000 in 2000. Item A states that only half as many people are getting married today.
Immigration policy's effect on the labor force should be carefully considered, but the vast majority of immigrants are not admitted based on education or skill level. In 2009, the U.S. admitted over 1.1 million legal immigrants, just 5-8 percent of whom possessed employment skills in demand in the United States. By contrast, 66.1 percent were based on family preferences, or 73 percent if the relatives of immigrants arriving on employment visas are included. 16.7 percent of admissions were divided among refugees, asylum seekers and other humanitarian categories, while 4.2 percent of admissions were based on the diversity lottery (which only requires that winners have completed high school). Some family-based immigrants may be highly educated or skilled, but the vast majority of admissions are made without regard for those criteria.
As senses changes over time, perception of a religious experience changes over time. As a result, a step further in finding how and why religious experiences happen is needed to explain more of the unknown expressed in the experiences. Yet, before getting to what the actual senses are, a religious experience needs to be defined. Which defined by Rodney Stark, a credited American sociologist of religion, is “All of those feeling, perceptions, and sensations which are experienced by an actor or defined by a religious group or society as involving some communication with some divine essence…? ?” (Burger 255).
1. The world statistics on belief in God: I have summarised two sources: 1) A poll conducted by global research company Ipsos for Reuters News in 2011 finds that half of global citizens surveyed (51%) believe there is some form of ‘divine entity’: either a “God or Supreme Being” (45%) or “many gods or supreme beings” (6%). This compares with (18%) who “don’t believe in God/gods/Supreme Being/beings” and another (30%) who are “undecided”. 2) How is the world population split into religious belief systems? ~52% of the 6.89 billion people in today's world believe that the Abrahamic God exists.
A famous example of this was Martin Luther Kings ‘I have a dream’ speech, his use of religion in his passionate speech for equality helped to motivate people in society to push for social change, and ultimately changed America’s legislation and outlook on integration and equality between the black and white community in America. This shows that religion is a force for social change. Furthermore the church acts as a an ‘honest broker’ between two groups, in this case the church was the middle ground between the government and the African American community, this once again means that religion is a clear force in social change, this is because the church was capable of bringing the two communities together through religion. The church did this by spreading messages such as ‘love thy neighbour’ which promoted more equality in society, this means that the influence the church
When we start to try to truly define the term “Spirituality” it can mean so many different thing that we need to look at one’s worldview to define this word. In health care spirituality is patient care to improving patient outcomes. “Administrators need to be interested in the spiritual renaissance because patients' spiritual experiences are likely to influence outcomes of treatment.” Hilsman, G. J. (1996). In the next few definitions will be my definitions of the term Spirituality as it relates to Pluralism, Scientism and Postmodernism.
← Can religious experiences be “explained away” by science? Definitions: ← An experience with religious significance, e.g. the act of worship in a religious setting ← A person’s experience of something or a presence beyond themselves Arguments for religious experience as evidence for God’s existence There are two different variants on the basic valid argument: The argument from 1st person experience:
Islamic and Buddhist Religious Worldview A complex institution of diverse teachings, beliefs, and rituals; religion provides people with a greater sense of reality. It is the basic foundation of life in various cultures around the world; and its convictions provide people with a spiritual identity and define life purpose. The practice of religion allows people to go beyond the five senses and gain a “direct experience of an inexplicable presence” (Fisher, 2005, p. 1). Religious perspectives vary according to culture, ethnicity and worldviews. Two of the three major religions Christianity and Islam both worship and God, acknowledge its presence in humanity and adhere to a list of laws or sacred scriptures.
