I Am Scared of Failure

341 Words2 Pages
We have been told that success and failure are part and parcel of life and that we should not be afraid of failures because failures make us stronger in life. There is an old motto that runs – if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again. Around us, motivational speakers seem to be singing the same tune – which we ought to learn from failures and only after rectifying our mistakes will we reach the pinnacle of success. However, even after listening to these motivational talks, I am scared of failure. When someone fails, he/she becomes shattered because he/she realises that his hard work has gone down the drain. There is fear that upon trying again, one may not be successful. The pain that one undergoes upon receiving the news of failure is excruciating and it forces an individual to think twice before taking a step forward. No one likes to experience pain and humiliation that come along with failure and this is why I am scared of failure. Every task has a success rate attached to it. And as the rate of success decreases, the fear of failure increases. When one fails at a task, people around him lose their trust and faith in him. They will be less comfortable giving him similar tasks in future. No man is an island – we live in close-knit communities and want to live in a respectable way. Our society is rather unforgiving towards people who fail. Instead of encouraging him to try harder, the society looks down upon an individual who has had several failures. Getting a second chance in our society is rare, which is why I hope to succeed in my first attempt. Be it in an examination, job interview, workplace, or a relationship, people form first impressions based on an individual’s history of failures and successes. And to maintain a good reputation in society and secure a good first impression, I aim to achieve success at any cost.
