Person-centred values must apply at all times, it’s about the individuals and what they want. All individuals have their own minds and can make their own choices. They need to have their own independence and are all different in their own ways and we have to respect this. We must respect their dignity and privacy as it is the individual’s right to be treated fairly at all times throughout no matter what. We must treat every individual the same regardless of any medical conditions, religions, culture and life style and deserves the same care and respect.
While as per Thoreau, policies of the State should never be put above the individual's needs. It is true that one is accountable to obey just laws; similarly, one has the moral responsibility to speak against unjust laws. However, it would be an extreme statement that one should disobey unjust laws. Anyways, laws are based on majority vote and cannot always suit everyone in different situations. Unjust laws do exist, but there is a proper way to reform them.
Everyone should be treated as equals but that’s not the case with Indians, , because no one person is better than another. In the text book Canada Revisited 8 on page 208 it read “the purpose of the Indian Act was to assimilate First Nations people into Euro- Canadian culture”. The text in quotes stated that the beliefs and culture of the First Nations were primitive, and had no place in society. This is absolutely unfair to the First Nations people because the Canadian government is discouraging them to follow their customs, cultures, and beliefs. Another example of assimilation was that in 2002 the
It is clear that people do not abide by the laws regarding to alcohol consumption and that shows their lack of respect for this law so what’s stopping people from loosing respect for other laws and in consequence not following them? When laws are put in place but they are difficult or near impossible to enforce it causes a loss of respect by the members of society. Albert Einstein is correct in saying that “nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced”. In conclusion there is no point in making a law which cannot be
current European Laws, National Legislation, National Guidelines, Local Policies, Protocols and Consent Human Rights Act 1998 Everyone has the right to make their own decisions about all aspects of their medical and personal care. No one should be discriminated against because of their age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, cultural beliefs or disability. This act states that everyone has the freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right includes the freedom to change religion or belief. Everyone also has the right to freedom of expression of opinion.
This document begins by stating that the purpose of the act is to protect all citizens of their legal and civil rights. To create a just society, all men, regardless of race, political or religious standpoint should be equal. All people in the United States will have equal access and enjoyment of accommodations, facilities, inns, and entertainment. Failure to abide by these laws will result in the violator to pay the victim $500, as well as serving 30 days to one year in jail, or fined $500-$1,000 if convicted for the misdemeanor. Another purpose of the act is to allow any citizen, regardless of race, color, or previous condition of servitude can serve as a grand or petit juror.
XXXX XXXX Social Justice Sr. Sara 17 December 2012 Civil rights violation during the war There is now near-universal consensus that all individuals are entitled to certain basic rights under any circumstances. These include certain civil liberties and political rights, the most fundamental of which is the right to life and physical safety. Human rights are the articulation of the need for justice, tolerance, mutual respect, and human dignity in all of our activity. Speaking of rights allows us to express the idea that all individuals are part of the scope of morality and justice. To protect human rights is to ensure that people receive some degree of decent, humane treatment.
Judges, lawyers, and other members of the legal community all over Canada believe that infanticide should not be used as a legal defense. Isabel Grant, a law professor who specializes in mental health and criminal law at the University of British Columbia argues that infanticide should not be used as a defense even though a killing like this is less culpable than murder. “The vast majority of women would risk their lives to save their baby and in these cases something goes terribly wrong” (Grant, 2010). Grant argues that even though a woman suffers from a mental condition, it is not fair to be more lenient to the mother when treatment is so easily attainable in a country such as Canada. She believes that the mothers that use infanticide as a legal defense basically use that as an excuse in order to avoid a life time sentence in jail.
In Canada, a democratic nation, we pride ourselves on having the right to Freedom of Speech. What confuses most people is the difference between banning and censoring films. The main difference is when a film is banned, it is completely off limits for anyone to view. This method is very popular in countries such as Singapore, and Malaysia. They ban films that we find totally acceptable, even children’s films will be forbidden if seen as offensive in any way.
