Executive Summary The Livestrong Foundation was founded in 1997 by famous American cyclist, and cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong. The Livestrong brand was launched in 2003, formed to inspire and empower cancer survivors and their families, as well as to provide cancer patients with free support programs during treatment. Livestrong was not a research based charitable organization, as it mainly focused on supporting those undergoing cancer treatment. Merchandise created by Livestrong stood for hope and victory, something that resonates with its audience.

In my research I was determined to try to focus on positive legacies if I could find any. I was able to find two positive ways but couldn’t find enough information to support three. On the positive side, I will be discussing food and architecture and on the negative side I will discuss poverty. I am a culinary arts student so it only seems natural that I would find some way to include food.

The government's provision of incentives motivates the private sector's expansion in a relatively new market setting. This government intervention helps latecomers to the market have ample opportunities to succeed in the face of high entry costs and existing competition. Through this role, the government ensures that the market risks are low enough to the point where the private sector will invest. These accommodations at the beginning of each industry's life cycle were meant to give industries across the board a solid foundation. Essentially, the nurturing of these so-called infant industries prepares them for entering into a self-sustaining market.
