WITCH-HUNTS, THEN AND NOW Based on “The Devil Discovered” By Latanya C. Gibson Student # 21471631 Submitted for SSC 105 Readings in World Civilization 4/25/2013 Research project number: 05023800 Witch Hunts, Then and Now I choose to complete my research paper on “Witch Hunts, Then and Now.” In my research I will show the similarities and differences of the “Salem Witch Trails” and the “Second Red Scare”. These two events proved to me that the powers that be in the world can do injustice and find away to make it look legal. Human rights seem important to us little people but the powers that be seem to always have another plan in mine for what we call rights. I choose this research assignment because the Salem Witch Trials had an effect on the church. Being a Christian, these events caught my attention.
The story being told is quite complex, asking viewers to follow along with complicated procedures and systems without spelling it out for them. The Wire is a pure product of 21st television, shows how the medium evolved in the 20th century. The Wire: A brand new way to deal with cop show The Wire is breaking from every usual TV shows, and particularly cop shows, that we are used to watch. The spine
Eric Cooke American History Professor Blakenship October 30, 2011 Prospectus Conspiracies of all kinds have intrigued me such as the JFK conspiracy and the 9/11 conspiracy, but this Nazi UFO conspiracy seems very pertinent to Hitler’s war diplomacy during and after World War 2. Many conspiracies have a lot of speculation, but I believe that this particular conspiracy has an extremely good amount of compelling evidence to connect Nazis to UFO technologies. When I say UFO technologies, I am not talking about alien technology, rather unknown objects that were made here on Earth in secret. To learn more about this topic, I consulted a variety of sources. This list of sources includes documentaries, books, recorded interviews, and articles.
Norse Fire gained power in the confusion of an epidemic; they gained the trust of the people by giving them a cure to this killing disease. But one thing the people don’t know is that the virus was caused by the Norse Fire party
In “The Merchants of Cool,” the author investigates the rising fascination with teen pop culture. Teenagers are constantly vying for attention, causing them to imitate popular celebrities. Major corporations try to capitalize off this, showing productions and advertisements to influence them further. The era of family friendly programming has no longer any place in primetime television; shows such as Dawson’s Creek and Cruel Intentions have completely infiltrated the TV schedule to reflect teens’ all-consuming fascination with sexuality. One of the major networks responsible for influencing pop culture is MTV, telling kids what’s cool.
I enjoy watching the History channel and have often found interest in past event with armed forces, so when reading this summary I found it caught my attention, the story revolved around the war. The Nationwide Commercial “Make Safe Happen” that is featured on YouTube and was aired during Super Bowl XLIX was made in a manner to effectively grab the attention of a specific audience by using a topic that is close and dear to parents around the world. This commercial was meant to make you think about preventing accidents that are a leading cause in accidental death amongst children in the United States. By using scare tactics about a controversial topic as an attention grabber to any
Why is this? Of course inflation will continue to follow salem witch trials for the foreseeable future. Perhaps to coin a phrase salem witch trialseconomics will be the buzz word of the century Political Factors Modern politics owes much to the animal kingdom. Comparing salem witch trials and much of what has been written of it can be like comparing salem witch trialsism and post-salem witch trialsism. Let us consider the words of that silver tongued orator, the famous political Bartholomew Skank 'People in glass houses shouldn't through parties.'
Although myth was traditionally transmitted through the oral tradition on a small scale, the technology of the film industry has enabled filmmakers to transmit myths to large audiences via film dissemination (Singer, “Mythmaking: Philosophy in Film”, 3-6). In the psychology of Carl Jung, myths are the expression of a culture or society’s goals, fears, ambitions and dreams (Indick, “Classical Heroes in Modern Movies: Mythological Patterns of the Superhero", 93-95). Film is ultimately an expression of the society in which it was credited, and reflects the norms and ideals of the time and location in which it is created. In this sense, film is simply the evolution of myth. The technological aspect of film changes the way the myth is distributed, but the core idea of the myth is the same.
Insurance advertisements from a few years ago had a tendency to be more serious, like Prudential’s “Own a Piece of the Rock” or Allstate’s previous ads with actor Dennis Haybert talking more seriously about insurance losses. Insurance giant Geico, a Warren Buffet owned company, started using humor a few years ago with the Geico Gecko and the Cavemen to sell insurance. Everybody needs insurance, and it is a competitive business, but Allstate is hoping to tilt the scales in their favor with a character that they have created called Mayhem. Mayhem grabs your attention with humor, he shows the craziness that can happen in life, and how Allstate is there to protect us, making this a pretty effective advertisement. Mayhem is a humorous, exaggerated depiction of the things that can go wrong in everyday life.
