It could be that he has damaged himself so that he is unable to feel empathy for others - or that the evil is innate. Macbeth displays some very evil characteristics - selfishness, coldness, obsession and cold-blooded murder. Shakespeare explores the degree to which he alone is responsible, and how far others contribute to Macbeth is perhaps Shakespeare's greatest exploration of the problem of evil. Evil is positioned both within and without. The witches are objective figures but Macbeth's first utterance in act 1, scene 3 suggests that he shares a similar thought with the witches.
Though he is responsible for wicked things, Macbeth is inherently good, but becomes evil in order to achieve his goals. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is not evil. There are many examples of this. When Macbeth is prophesied by three witches to become the Thane of Cawdor and the King, his pride and ambition are stimulated. After the first part of the prophecy comes true, Macbeth starts to seek the kingship.
It is quite interesting to note that the words of the witches will have an echo in Macbeth’s “So foul and fair a day I have not seen”. Macbeth utters these words at the very first time he enters the stage. This shows the evil connection between Macbeth and the witches. This is suggestive of the psychological depravity of Macbeth who means that the day is foul because it is stormy and fair because he has won the battle against King of Norway and Thane of Cawdor. In the use of the language of witches, Shakespeare shows a great mastery.
The only person Huck could relate to was his friend Tom Sawyer; unfortunately Tom wasn’t the best role model for Huck. Huck’s father was a drunk that was never there when he needed him. Yes, it came to Al’s realization that he was losing his touch as a comic writer, but he would never fully admit it to himself. Instead of throwing in the towel, AL resorted to stealing the scripts from a deceased young comic named Davey Farber, whom was killed in World War 2. Al’s actions put his and Sammy’s job in jeopardy, even when Sammy was unaware of what he did. Al kept those scripts locked away in a desk drawer and his girlfriend, Connie, would repeatedly ask him why he had kept them. His response was for “a little sentimentality, and for old time’s sake.” His words are deceiving being that he really keeps them for inspiration, and possibly a back-up plan when he can be comical no more.

The witches promise kingship to Macbeth by which Banquo is eager to find out his future. Although Banquo’s descendants are promised to sit on the throne, Banquo hesitates to fully have faith in the witch’s prophecy. He has recognised them to be evil and cunning, “What, can the devil speak true?”. Banquo is quick to distinguish evil plans where Macbeth fails to. Banquo also warns Macbeth as a friend, “… oftentimes, to win us to our harm, The instruments of darkness tell us truths…” Despite Banquo’s warning, Macbeth is now more confident that his deep inner desire will be fulfilled – especially after the witch’s prophecy.
Macbeth truly debuts the play with auspiciousness, which in a sense, makes his downfall so much more tragic. Macbeth's ambition takes control of his noble qualities however, and creates a destructive path for both himself and Scotland as a whole. The seeds of his ambition are planted even before the Witches's first prophecy. While the Witches are predicting Macbeth's future it is evident that the notion of Duncan's murder has already crossed his mind: MACBETH: [Aside.] This supernatural soliciting Cannot be ill, cannot be good.
This is where the audience finds out about Willy not only betraying Linda, but Biff as well, "You fake! You phony little fake!" (121). Willy knows deep down that he is overall a pretty unsuccessful man but he continues to tell his two sons that he is successful and that all they need in life is to be well liked in order to be like him.
