How do you think the Internet is affecting intellectual property laws? Technology does make life easy and convenient for ordinary people like me but for those who rely on their intellectual creativity for livelihood it is a threat that needs to be addressed. There are laws that some countries are abiding with that slows down the cloning of original works by imposing penalties, some are steep enough to hurt the infringers but not strong enough to completely halt the practice. People’s promise to abide by the rules and laws is not guaranteed to happen. Intellectual property laws will have to be redesigned or rewritten in order to add some clause that will be able to catch certain technicalities that affects the potency of the existing laws.
As much as we wish we were, people are not perfect and can easily overlook an important step in a process and accidentally delete data or enter the wrong data. Making sure I have efficient processes in place and good quality assurance programs are both great ideas, but having an online backup solution for the café can be as equally
Other countries are dealing with worst software copyright problems. The issue of copyright is not new, and it’s resulted from many factors. In my opinion, copyright violations are caused by the easiness of able to copy software and by lacking of strict enforcement. Some people don’t understand that it’s an ethical issue because by using and copying software without paying is a form of stealing. Many under developed countries are not enforcing the issues of copyright leading to outrageous software piracy.
While this application has its benefits I am sure I also see several disadvantages to it. The major one being the fact of using a device while driving takes away from your awareness on the road. The application while I am skeptical on its real benefit it’s only on the Iphone which shows it’s not economical for those it may benefit the most. That is what I see wrong with most technological advances that they are for those that can afford them not for the majority of the population. I would even update my Iphone with this technology if I drove more just to see how well the application works on my
Although someone could do this to another person’s property, we should still have faith in humanity that we only want to enjoy a free movie or song. Our appreciation for the product doesn’t lessen just because we got it for free. Preventing illegal downloading and copyright would result in no media entertainment on sites like YouTube or Pandora. These sites are allowing media to be enjoyed in a free manner; if we abolished this ability the public would be distraught. It is also a long and complicated process to take someone to court for breaking a copyright law; many cases would and have been brushed off.
Dead versus alive is a qualitative difference, and it allows not faster work, but doing work that is actually different. The plastic bag might not feel like technology, given the fancy handheld computing devices of today, but it is exactly technology and performs the rescaling that is so characteristic of technological change. Smaller computing and recording devices have changed the relationship of people to their music. It has changed how music is produced, much to the chagrin of recording labels, who used to make most of the money with their restrictive distribution practices. Now the musicians can record and distribute their own music, and collect remuneration in new and remarkable ways, such as asking for donations for otherwise free music.
However, that market is high competitive and almost commodity-like. Company A would need to consider reducing its labor force or even moving its operation to low cost-region in order to be competitive in the iPod/iPhone headphone market. Another new customer group is the people who use noise-cancellation headphones. There are limited players in this market. Also, the quality of noise cancellation headphones vary a lot and the customers are willing to pay higher price for good product.
Every day, I hear about a scandal or crime involving media technology. Some argue that the solution to this problem is to get rid of it. However, making alcohol illegal did not stop others from having access. The solution is very complex and the issues may never be solved. In the meantime, use technology responsibly.
Franzen then goes on to write about how technology has made living much more “likeable”, it is much easier to like something in cyberspace than in real life. He appeals to his readers through pathos. He tries to speak to our feelings by saying “We can handle being disliked now and then, because there is such an infinitely big pool of potential “likers”. But to expose your whole self, not just the likable surface, and to have it rejected, can be catastrophically painful.” He claims people are having a relationship to their cell phone and other technological devices. Throughout the entire essay Franzen uses arguments saying we do not appreciate the physical world enough.
Negative Argument Copyright laws as enacted today are suppose to protect the rights of individuals and companies when it comes to intellectual and creative property. It is becoming more common for larger companies to seek litigation against people who breach copyright laws yet many of these companies themselves are breaching copyright laws against individuals who, for the most part, do not have the resources to fight copyright infringement cases for prolonged periods of time, if at all. As well as bigger companies using or ignoring copyright laws to their own benefit, there is also the threat to intellectual freedom. With more intellectual property being bought out, owned and controlled by the few ( larger companies and corporations), there is the threat to be able to access and use information by anyone. Copyright is supposed to be the protection of the rights of tangible expressions of ideas which is something that exists but cannot be considered an actual physical object.
