Response on the Illusionist As I have read in The Barnum Museum a short story called Eisenheim the Illusionist by Steven Millhauser, the passage speaks about a famous magician named Eisenheim who sold his soul to the devil for unholy mysterious magical powers that he uses in his shows to freighting and deceive his audience with magic tricks. As I respond to Johnsons comment about the short story, I see that he is trying to say that we are living in a world full of technology which takes away from our imaginations and I totally agree with that statement. We all had wild imaginations when we were younger but we tend to grow up and tend to overlook things such as magic and mysterious powers. And the question is always asked among us does magic exist like in the story? Can any person really sell their soul for magical powers or such power so that they can control the minds of others and rule the earth? In everyday life when tend to overlook these imaginable wonders and Eisenheim the Illusionist can really bring back out the mystery as we read it and frequently ask the question do these events or did they really occur, because the book is not meant for the young minds of children even though they have wild imaginations; the story is meant for older minds to read and to bring out our imaginations about the mysterious wonders of magicians. As I read this story I frequently asked myself did events like people really disappearing and selling your soul to the devil really happened or is happening now, or is this just another plot to deceive our minds just like the magicians really did in there magic tricks. Also in the story it says before Eisenheim became heavily enriched with this magic industry he came across a man in a black suit who changed his life, and I believe that man he came across was the devil, so maybe that was when he sold his
