A perfect example of Canadian foreign policy can be the discussion on the ratification of Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto agreement has the potential to affect every sector of society because most anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2, come from energy production and use. It will be necessary to have full cooperation of all countries, both developed and developing, to fulfill the goals set out at the Kyoto Convention. Global warming will be a great concern for future generations, but it is time to take action now to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and to slow the human-induced global warming process. The longer the worlds nations wait to respond, the more costly the response will be (Herzog, 1999).
If ongoing pollution cannot be reduced, then the climate is just going to keep getting worse day by day. As a result, not only will a single nation be suffering, but also the entire planet will change due to global warming. Of course, if people can make efficient adaptation plans to control the ongoing global warming and climate change, in the future it can prevent the threat of global warming and many other climate change issues. After all, the consciousness that man could alter the climate of Earth has dawned slowly on their awareness. Work Cited Begley, Sharon.
Eaarth Chapters 1 & 2 We’ve changed the planet. Global warming is no longer philosophical or future threat but instead a current and very real threat. The changes made to our planet are more evident in the toughest parts of the planet, and climate change is wrecking the lives of thousands daily. We need to consider the world we’ve created and how to live in it. We need to figure out what part of our lives we must forego and what ideologies we must abandon so that we can protect our societies and our civilizations.
They proved that progression in this field of study can have vast as well as monumental improvements in contemporary science and technology. Eugenics and Frankenstein both included advanced ways of thinking and study. However, with advancement, setbacks can also follow. In both cases, the development of the ideas of Eugenics and creation of Frankenstein’s monster were thought to be ideas that would revolutionize scientific thinking and bring the ability to even further the scientific field of study. This statement was proven to be precise.
In conclusion, hydraulic fracturing is used to open up Marcellus shale deposits filled with natural gas otherwise unavailable through conventional drilling. The process has many effects on the economy, environment, citizens, and workers. Some effects are positive whereas others have negative impacts. Hydrofracking could change the way we live and the environment around us based on the decisions made by our public and government. Research over hydraulic fracturing continues to determine whether or not it usable or
David Zhang Ms. Khan ENG3U1-08 25 March 2012 Oryx and Crake: Climate Change Climate change is a tough subject for humans to deal with; ever since the Industrial Revolution, our dramatically increased consumption of energy over the century has brought about immense consequences. Abnormal weather conditions, an increased frequency of natural disasters, and rising sea levels are what many of us claim to be part of a “natural cycle”. However, it is no coincidence that we are on the wrong end of that “natural cycle”, and our behaviours and activities have only caused it to worsen. Climate change will worsen if we continue to disregard its existence and compromise with its consequences, rather than confronting the source of the issue and taking responsibility. Our irresponsibility could ultimately lead to the destruction of our world and civilization, as portrayed in “Oryx and Crake” by Margaret Atwood.
There is the possible pollution of air as well. Contamination could make anyone who depends on a healthy ecosystem to earn a living could become ill or potentially have their livelihood destroyed. This shows that hydraulic fracturing could be very dangerous. However, although there are negative effects to hydraulic fracturing, there are also positive ways to look at these technological breakthroughs. Hydraulic fracturing can and has helped many communities receive economic gains, thanks to the increase in gas and oil production.
However, this type of approach usually relies on detailed regulations that are put into place and were followed-up by other ongoing inspection programs, which in the United States are the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Advantages /Disadvantages The advantages of a command and control regulations are more preferred in cases where there are highly toxic pollutants, which are a concern for people and the environment. Also, they are preferred when the initial reduction in the amount of pollutant significantly benefits society. Some disadvantages include; technology is constantly changing which makes it very difficult for the regulatory agency to stay current with more effective methods. Also, they limit the firm’s ability to find most cost-effective ways to continue production while reducing pollution.
In Indiana the university of Indiana have been researching the climate changes and they have found that all this climates will have an impact in our state. Purdue Climate Change Researchers have been researching greenhouse gas concentrations and they have found that due to these changes Indiana could have these effects the occurrence of extreme hot events is likely to increase in Indiana, while the occurrence of extreme cold events is likely to decrease. The occurrence of conditions that spawn severe thunderstorms is likely to increase in Indiana. Annual average precipitation is likely to increase in the region, as is the occurrence of rain during the winter and early spring, resulting in higher stream flow and an increased likelihood of flooding. An increase in the frequency and intensity of summer storms is likely to increase the frequency of flooding events and exacerbate summer soil moisture deficits in
Some believe that it’s not as big a concern as others while some believe we are rapidly destroying the planet. As for my personal thoughts on the issue of human overpopulation; I believe people need to be better educated on birth control and the environmental effects of overpopulation. There is a serious need to correct the air pollution and fossil fuel depletion and my hope is by doing so there will be less of a need for wars in order to gain others natural resources . We also need to find a way to fix the depleting fresh water supply because once it’s gone all living things are going to suffer
