Definition of Globalisation ‘Globalisation is ‘the intensification of world-wide social relations… local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away & vice versa’ (Giddens, 1990, cited in Rantanen, 2005: 6) The act or process of globalizing: the state of being globalized; especially: the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets In summary this means that because of the access to new media resources today we can access and exchange information with ease instantly thus meaning events happening miles away feel like they effect us more as the world is linked together. We are now living in a global village where it is easy to stay connected to friends and family and to make new friends through social networking sites that we would normally not of made. The history of Globalisation Power structures and activities between different countries has existed for centuries, this meant items of ‘media’ which would have been news or speeches from pulpits where passed from country to country. This lead to the need for wireless a form of communication between Europe and the rest of the world this meant that news papers found it easier and quicker to create and send out news papers to the public however this didn’t happen until 1870’s that under water cables where put down to allow the world to begin being connected by media technology. Today it is much easier to access the news and media we can now turn on the TV, computer, phone, tablet to hear quickly what is going on in the world or to watch the latest film or download the latest music or even find out about the history or information about anything.
