Conscience and Decision Making Beatitudes “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”. This beatitude comes from one of the eight beatitudes that Jesus spoke in a sermon on a mountain top in Matthew 5: 1-12. The beatitudes are a guide given to us by Jesus in which we should follow and live by in order to lead a happy and good life here on earth. They are values which show us to live our life to the fullest and help us to make decisions as they are based on good moral truths and virtues. The beatitudes teach us basic life skills about how we should act towards one another, encouraging us to treat others with respect, compassion, generosity and justice. If we succeed and live the way Jesus showed us to, which is by showing the values of the beatitudes, we will be rewarded in heaven and will live for eternity with God. The statement, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” basically means standing up for what you believe in, what you know is right and facing the consequences with the choices you decide to take forward. It is about fighting for what is good and what is going to make this world better. If we are able to do this, God will take note of our faithfulness by rewarding us with eternal life with him in heaven. God praises those who have the courage to do what is right and knows who takes value of his love by the actions in which we show.
