When a person feels they are threatened, a natural defense mode seems to turn on. How that person naturally defends what they feel is right, will most likely come to the forefront. Those natural defenses a person has is what we have been brought up with as a child. We as persons will tend to take on how our parents handled conflict, whether right or wrong. The mode I mentioned above could be any number of actions such as the five mentioned in our book, “avoid, bully the other person or team, compromise, be passive-aggressive, give in, problem solve together, or honor the other person.” (Tim Ursiny, 2003) The escalation of conflict can occur when the parties involved avoid the situation by letting small annoyances grow out of proportion. Conflict escalation is a gradual regression from a mature to immature level of emotional development. What this means is as the conflict escalates the parties regress backwards through their emotional development. Conflict can be caused by many different aspects.. It could be values,
