In 1959, she graduated from Wesley College with a B.A. with honors in political science on a scholarship. Joseph Medill Paterson, a member of the Medill newspaper-publishing family, married her the same year, together they raised three daughters; twins Anne and Alice, and Katie. Even with the difficult job of upbringing her children, she managed to earn a degree of M.A. in Public Law and Government from School of Advanced International Studies and a certificate from the Russian Institute, both at Columbia
This is the school I remember most when I think about the beginning of my academic career. Swanson is where I made my childhood friends, and it is also where my first memory of being proud of an academic achievement took place. In the 4th grade we would take a placement test to determine whether we should be in advanced math, regular math, or lower math classes. For the first couple of tries I was always put in the regular math class. I wasn’t discouraged but I always wanted to be in the advanced class here all my friends were.
She even worked very hard to write the Equal Rights Amendment. She is a very strong and dedicated women in my opinion I hope I can show you that with her story. Alice Paul was born on January 11, 1885 in Moorestown, New Jersey. She attended Swarthmore College and graduated in 1905 then took the rest of the year to do graduate work at the New York school of Social Work. After that she went to England in 1906 to continue her education in social work.
She had both a mother and a father. Her mother was a high school vice-principal and her father owned a manufacturing company in Philly. Avery’s inspiration was her neighbor, pediatrician Emily Bacon; she was the one who took Avery to see her first premature baby. Avery went to private school her whole life and later went to Wheaton College. After graduating from Wheaton in 1948 with a degree in chemistry, she pursued her dream of going to medical school.
Oprah Winfrey, born Orpah Gail Winfrey on January 29, 1954 is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. Winfrey is best known for her self-titled, multi-award-winning talk show, which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history and was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011. She is the first woman in history to own and produce her own talk show. Oprah Winfrey is considered to be many things. She is a strong black woman.
Being the oldest of five, she felt responsible for her siblings and took care of them often during her younger years. They lived on a farm in Neilsville, Wisconsin until Satir was old enough to attend school (Suarez, 1999). Satir's taught herself to read when she was only three years old but she was still formally taught in a small one-room school with seventeen other students while living on the farm. Her mother expressed a strong desire for the family to move to the city so that Satir could attend a larger high school, South Division High School in Milwaukee, where she could take advantage of a better education. When she graduated from South Division High School 1932 she was not quite sixteen years old (Suarez, 1999).
Ann Romney grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where she went to Kingswood Private School, the sister school to the school Mitt was attending. She has known of Mitt Romney since elementary school. Here she met Mitt Romney. After she met Mitt, she converted to The Church of Latter-day Saints. In 1966, Ann and Mitt Romney got married.
When Angelou was 12 years old an educated black woman from Stamps by the name of Bertha Flowers helped her to break this silence. Angelou graduated at the top of her Morrison 2 eighth grade class in Stamps, Arkansas. Because of the racial issues in Stamps, their grandmother thought it was in the best interest of the children to move them to California. Angelou attended George Washington High School where she studied dance, music and drama. At the age of seventeen Angelou graduated from high school and gave birth to a son Guy Bailey Johnson.
Benazir Bhutto and her influence: I chose Benazir Bhutto because I think that she was quite an influential person. Of course there are many people that can be given “credit” for being influential but she had influence and achievements that went beyond the frontiers of her country. She was the daughter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Bhutto was the first woman ever elected as the prime minister of a Muslim state. She was Pakistan’s first and to date the only female to have occupied that position.
Ms Nooyi in her pursuit of a management degree attended the prestigious Yale Graduate School of Management (Walsh, F. 2006, Aug 15). From the inception of her career in the U.S. Ms. Nooyi took the advice of one of her professors to be herself and have been successful in doing so. She wore a sari to her first successful interview. • 1980: joined the Boston Consulting Group as director of international corporate strategy projects. • 1986: joined Motorola as the vice-president and director of corporate strategy & planning • 1990: joined Asea Brown Boveri as vice president of corporate strategy and planning (PepsiCo 2014) • 1994: joined PepsiCo (PepsiCo 2014) • 2001: Became a member of board of directors of PepsiCo Inc (Pepsi Co 2014) • 1997: helped made the strategic decision to spin off PepsiCo’s fast food chain.
