The use of spy networks to infiltrate serious radicals and the suspension of Habeas corpus helped decrease the radical threat. Understanding the term totalitarian government refers to absolute power, a dictator that controls all. This term is present in the film text ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell and the written text ‘The Wave’ by Todd Strasser. Each author has related techniques within their writing and film to power. According to this quote: ‘power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely’, initially these texts present the techniques which show how power can take over, the author does this by using, verbal and non verbal language, symbolism, motifs and mass media. A similarity between the style of the two texts is that each story is short a simple, both are told from the narrators perspective.
Philip Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment and Stanley Milgram’s Behavioral Study of Obedience have provoked controversy amongst individuals interested in the study of human psychology. Critics have claimed that both studies were unethical and caused serious harm to the participants. Although both trials were later reviewed by the American Psychological Association and approved, many debates and additional research ensued. The strengths, weaknesses and underlying ethics of both studies still provide ample reason for further examination. Only three months after the start of trials for Adolf Eichmann (a Nazi war criminal), Milgram formulated an experiment to question this dispositional view.

The entire novel centers around a single act of violence, Hassan's rape, and the sin Amir commits by pretending that violence did not occur. Symbolically, Hassan's rape is echoed by Sohrab's rape decades later and by Afghanistan's continual rape by war and terrorism. Amir's life in America does involve suffering, especially regarding Baba's death. But Baba's death is peaceful. Because America is a haven from violence, the violence under the Taliban in Kabul is even more shocking and sobering.
The influx of prisoners poses issues such as gang rivalries, and violent confrontations, not only among the prisoners themselves but also between them and the prison guards. At Corcoran State Prison, on “gladiator days” officers forced rival gang members to fight, and shot them both for entertainment(Schlosser). In private Juvenile detention centers such as YSI facilities, staff often choose to not report most assaults and major fights to avoid scrutiny for violating their contracts and the rules of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Overcrowding also leads to inconveniences such as double-bunking, which urges aggression, violence, and stress-induced mental disorders. The incarceration system in the United States has inflicted much damage on societal well-being, caused by privatization of prisons, war on drugs, and overcrowding of prison cells.
Remember the golden rule – treat others the way you want to be treated? Ninety percent of the time, when torture is used for finding answers to simple things, not for finding answers when there is a bomb and millions of lives are at stake. To call something an 'enhanced interrogation technique' doesn't alter the fact that we thought it was torture when the Japanese used it on American prisoners, we thought it was torture when the North Koreans used it, we thought it was torture when the Soviets used it. You know, it's almost the moral equivalent of saying that rape is an enhanced seduction technique (Ted Koppel, www.brainyquote.com). Affliction is on the same page with killing.
If we do not show these freedoms to people of other countries, then we do our whole country a dishonor. Torture to an enemy of the United States by the military or by any of the other Agencies is wrong and against our own laws and treaties. Our own military’s lawyers have even expressed concern over the use of torture of prisoners. The Judge Advocacy General’s Corps
