He had devoted his entire adult life to making the most seaworthy and recognizable sportfishing boats in the world; enduring recessions, punishing luxury taxes, evolutions in technology and financial crisis. Now, in March of 1999, he could take comfort in the fact that he had built a company that was as successful in many ways as his customized boats were impressive. Davis, however, was anything but content. His thoughts on this cool March morning were not on his successes, but on the future of his 26-year-old manufacturing company. The popularity of his boats had created a surge in demand that outstripped his company’s current capacity.
It was a minor flaw that doctors were not involved in the initial trials to point out some critical design flaws. It is important to have proper market research by talking to customers or the end user before continuing on. This happened to turn out alright though since Newland was forced to have several suppliers where quality could be monitored more closely. Although quality was improved, manufacturing lead time was reduced in order to coordinate several different suppliers.. Newland was debating whether to focus on improving manufacturing capacity, which would boost appeal as an acquisition for potential buyers. I would recommend that they do pursue investing in manufacturing to help sell their product since their original strategy was to have the company acquired from outside investors.
Management did a turnaround in the mid- 1980s, however, resulting in a financially sound public company today. One of the areas of turnaround was in relying on employees to help keep the company afloat - not in financial matters directly, but rather in ensuring that Harley returns to its standard and reputation for quality. Quality had suffered so in the 1960s and 1970s. Harley-Davidson has now returned to its former days of quality, adding production efficiency along the way. In the mid- to late 1990s, Harley-Davidson's management turned its attention to internal efficiency.
Running Head: LITIGATION V. ADR Litigation v. ADR Rogelio Ramirez LAW 531 November 28, 2011 Instructor CHRISTINE BENWAY This compilation will briefly compare and contrast the litigation system to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and offer examples of the pros and cons of each. Even though ADR may not be able to resolve complicated matters that otherwise may determine resolution through normal litigation, the use of the court systems to resolve business and other disputes can take years and cost thousands, or even millions of dollars in legal fees and expenses. Because ADR avoids interruptions and costly court fees for businesses and complaining parties, ADR is a better and more reasonable method to resolve issues as it salvages relationships between the parties. Arendt (1997-2001) website, “No civilization would ever have been possible without a framework of stability, to provide the wherein for the flux of change. Foremost among the stabilizing factors, more enduring than customs, manners and traditions are the legal systems that regulate our life in the world and our daily affairs with each other,” ADR and litigation both exist so that civilization can have the flexibility for change and ease of disputes between parties.
America is currently going through some tough economic times and must restructure on how they do business. A big part of our national budget is spent on defense, so why not target the military for cost savings? Productivity is a necessity to what we do. When I first came into the Air Force in 1992, we had an over abundance of personnel, we even created jobs so everyone would be employed. With current budget cuts we now have less people, but are expected to maintain the same day-to-day workload to also include defending our great nation and supporting our allies worldwide when needed at a moments notice.
In the business applications, we can put out a latest superior product into market before other competitor. We can also get into a new field of the market when there is no any competitor. So, as conclusion, in order to attack and balk the enemy’s plan, need a long period of continuous observing the competitive environment, and need to work deliberately on the part of company. As the attack the relationship between competitor and other, we must break them up or prevent them from forming. As the attacking the enemy, we can luring the important personnel away from his company or attract capable employees using higher salary to join our
Being an extrovert, we are usually motivated by outside factors and greatly influenced by the environment. As I have been reading , I have learned more about the extroverted personality type. I have also learned that having an extrinsic motivation is a means of encouraging an activity such as the company merger. For example, if we joined in and took the merger with open arms, we’d get better benefits across the board. However, if we had reluctance by a significant amount, we’d see the doors close for UT Medical Group.
However, it may lead staff to feel unappreciated and angry. This style can also prevent staff from developing their own initiative. Communications can break down and in the long run the employees can lose their drive for the job. The democratic leader encourages people to be part of the decision making process. The leader is still in control, however, this leadership style allows others to use their personal experiences and expertise to help the team.
Microsoft believes that “smart, driven people were best developed through challenging and engaging assignments.” (Bartlett & Glinska, 2001, pg. 4) In addition the company believes in allowing employees to move around within the organization. “The company encouraged its employees to switch jobs internally to develop themselves and keep their interest. Prior success was not necessarily the key qualification for the new job since Microsoft had a long tradition of promoting those involved in failed projects. An often quoted sentiment was ‘If you fire the person who failed, you’re throwing away the learning.’” (Bartlett & Glinska, 2001, pg.
It was inevitable for the companies to come up with ideas to overcome the obstacles such as sharing real-time data. Different levels of technologies as well as IT infrastructures between the companies were also a big issue, which was also linked to implementation issues. Due to the complexity of designs, much smoother communication was needed as well as importance of patents and intellectual property related issues had to be discussed. To be more collective and be “tightened”, collaboration through information technology was no longer an option for them, but a “must” to survive. 2.
